Today marks the first day of the new year 💚

To be honest, I’m not entirely ready to enter this new page yet but as I took some time to clear up our home studio’s garden; pull up some weeds, shifted the plants around, also bought a new plant (😍) I can’t help to start feeling more excited about 2025! It got me thinking, just like our plants, we can always start afresh at whatever stage we are in.

From a plant seed that goes through waiting, watering, pruning, expectance of seeing new shoots, the idea of looking forward to see my plants grow helped me shift my head and heart gear to accept maybe it’s okay to rest in the continuing gear of 2024 to 2025 - to keep going, keep growing and keep smiling through the sunshine and rain. Turning over a new leaf starts from where we are planted🌱🙂☀️🌧️

So here’s a sweaty and also extremely happy me (lol 🤓) after gardening, sitting next to my cutest new cypress tree which I hope will grow tall and strong in years to come. Happy New Year my dearest sunshine friends!! 🫶🫶🫶 Thank you for journeying through the past year together. Let’s continue passing on our 2024 baton and enter 2025 with a renewed faith, hope and love. Let’s go xx❣️🫶❤️✨

“DANCE as though no one is watching
SING as though no one can hear you
LIVE as though heaven is on earth”

// The gift request brief from this thoughtful client was to paint a jar lamp for his friend who is a ballerina - to encourage her passion for dance 🩰☺️ I couldn’t resist adding glitter paint to the jar lamp so that the ballerina would be dancing amongst the stars! 🤩🌟

3 days more to Christmas ✨✨, here’s wishing everyone a blessed holiday season! May faith, hope, peace and love fill your days always! 💕

[ O Christmas Tree ]

So thankful that Sunshine&Love could be part of SAS Asia Pacific’s Giving Tuesday, where we joined students with additional needs from AWWA Special Student Care Centre (SSCC) through a Christmas art workshop. AWWA is a multi-service social service agency supporting children with differing abilities, persons with additional needs, families and seniors.

Together with the dedicated SAS volunteers and the AWWA SSCC students, we learnt how to create our very own Christmas Tree canvas light art through dot art painting. We had so much fun dotting away and enjoying the therapeutic painting experience! 🎨

It was such a joy to see the students’ faces light up when we turned on the fairy lights at the end for a group photo 🎄✨ It is in moments like this when I learnt that joy is never too far away and is found in the precious little moments around us ✨✨

Big heartfelt thanks goes to for working on this project together with me 💛

[ Walking in Sunshine ]

Pssst… guess what? We survived our first pop up of the year!! Woohooo! 🎉🎉🎉

Every pop up is really special because we always learn something new about kindness, patience, and goodness shown to us in the midst of feeling very nervous about putting our artwork out there 🥹🙏💕 One can never get tired with the fuel of gratitude that keeps us grounded as we do our best to paint artwork that we hope can resonate with every heart that comes by our booth 💕✨

Thankful to ALL the dearest old friends AND new friends we got to know at the pop up who dropped by Chio Life last weekend to send us your cheers and support. 我们收到了! ❤️❤️ Your presence, smiles and love really made all the difference to our hearts and morale these two days xx

This post is also not complete if I do not say a huge thank you to Anthony for all his hard and heart work at taking care of all the vendors since Chio Life started in September this year 🥹🙏 THANK YOU Anthony and Elaine for creating this opportunity for us all… thank you for ploughing day and night to make this space happen, and thank you for making time to share about all the vendors so that this can be a fruitful experience for everyone 🥲💖☺️💖

My heart is truly warmed this December 🌻

With much love and gratitude
the sunshine team x

[ Animal Stories ]

and I have been enjoying creating and painting these glass art for our upcoming pop ups with and in December ☺️❤️ Here’s sharing a sneak peek at some of our lovingly painted ‘animal stories’ glass art with you xx 🐰🐿️🐨🐻🦔🦁

1. The koalas - Billy, Charlotte, Arthur & Dorothy 🐨🐨🐨🐨 are soaking in their favourite seasons of the year. After my winter hibernation of taking a long sabbatical break, I think I’m in a transit to spring season ~ where things are currently blooming and a tad busier 😝🤓 How about you? Which season are you in currently? ❄️🌱🌼🍂

2. Aloysius 🐿️ had a fruitful winter enjoying his hidden stash of acorns. He’s currently enjoying spring and learning to make daisy cookies! 🍪🌼

3. A lion-hearted Bible verse to encourage us in all seasons: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”. 🦁💪

4. Benny 🐻 is currently enjoying summer season. He likes to make honey lemonade 🍋 and bake honey butter cake 🍰🍯🐝

5. Elisabeth 🦔 enjoys a good conversation chitchatting with her friends. Once in a while, she gets a tad pokey and irritated when they tease her too much 🤓🙃

6. Mildred 🐰 loves taking hops in meadows at the countryside. She also loves the sight of dreamy clouds ☁️💜

[ Childhood Dreams ]

Recently I had the opportunity to chat with some primary 6 students to share about my career journey as an artist 🎨 It brought me back thinking about my childhood and days of being a student. Things were definitely much simpler then when the main objective for me was to just pass exams and “make it” 😜🙂 I didn’t recall we had career talks back then! Also I didn’t think at that point of time, I’ll be an artist now. Life has its interesting twists and turns indeed.

It was such a treat to meet the students at the career seminar and they really asked me very thoughtful questions! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️ Ranging from ~

“Do you feel heartache when you have to sell your creations?”,
“What time do you wake up and sleep as an artist?” ,
“Does receive a pay working with you?”,
“What do you do with the glassware that you make mistakes on?” ,
“How do you celebrate your birthday?”
“How much do you make as an artist?”
“How do you succeed as an artist?”
“What is your favourite artwork that you have done so far?”
“Did you practice a lot for the first artwork piece that you sold?”

At a juncture where Sunshine&Love recently turned 9 years old, I really treasure these questions. They helped me look back at how I started, reflect on how the journey continued and grew; learnt about taking breaks and refining success.

At the end of the seminar, the school gifted each speaker a student-handmade pottery artwork. Mine was a pretty in green lotus jewellery box! I’m so thankful for this special gift. Thank you for having me at your career seminar! ❤️❤️

P.S. Lastly, grateful also for Joshua Loh Yoon Ping and Anthony Koh Waugh for making time to be my cheerleaders during the career talk! It made all the difference to me 🥲💕

[ Seasons of Life ]

I’ve got a confession to make 🥹🥹 I have been (subtly) avoiding gift painting projects as my eyesight doesn’t feel the same as it was before at the beginning of the year when I last did my eye test. My suspected 老花 (age related far-sightedness) seems to be worsening; and have been experiencing more frequent eye strains. It frustrates me as I can now only now paint limited glass art in a day 🥲🥹🎨 Will probably schedule in an eye check up soon after this year end festive season to determine how bad my eye sight is and also invest in some better table lights 👀✨🙏🙏

In the meantime though, the seasons of life continues 🍃🍂 and to counter my 老花, here’s presenting BILLY THE KOALA 🐨 lovingly painted on a HUGE SURFACE cookie jar lol !!! 😜😜🍪🍪 I was so captivated with how happy and healthy the koalas were at , in Melbourne (swipe left to see how cute and cuddly they are!) that I thought they were the perfect animal to paint for our upcoming ‘Chio Life’ pop up in December with Booktique Where Writers Shop ☺️📚

To be brutally honest, I’m not sure how long I can keep up with the stamina to paint for pop-ups 🥲🥲 I try not to worry too much for now, and instead learn to trust in the daily strength given from heaven above to be faithful to the present and hand paint whatever small batch gifts as long as I can 🙂🎨 Each glass art piece is really heart and hard work and I look forward to sharing more of our creations in the next couple of weeks ahead 😉🥲🙏🥹 Stay tuned, ok? ❤️

[ Turning 9️⃣🎂 ]

2 days ago, Sunshine&Love turned nine and instead of feeling joy, I was filled with guilt instead 💔

When I initially started on last year’s sabbatical break, the unwilling workaholic in me was honestly worried if I did lesser projects, the fears and what ifs of people forgetting about Sunshine & Love was a real struggle and I wondered countless times if this break was a bad decision which would lead to the end of this craft business 🥺🙏

Fast forward to this year, the inside out change happened 🥹🙏 I actually outgrew work and busyness as my shell and learnt to emerge as amelia and discovered life outside of work 🥲🙏 I learnt to better like my imperfections, and also accept my limitations. Life has its seasons and even trees go through these quiet seasons of winter bearing little fruits; so why I do I need to be so harsh on myself to be “productive” all the time? Learnt that waiting and resting is an important part of the growth process too 🌲🌳 So much so, I got comfortable with this season of rest and felt guilty taking this break and doubted - maybe nine years is actually not worth celebrating… 🥹🙏

Thank God for my partner in crime Joshua Loh Yoon Ping who was very insistent on buying a small cake yesterday and together we blew out the birthday candle after a simple homecooked dinner at the home studio. It was a sweet small cake and when I reflected on this nine HUGE years of projects and changing seasons, I felt my heart warmed up in gratitude to this amazing crazy scary craft business journey which has been a huge part of my life 🥹🥲9️⃣❣️❣️❣️

As guilt and doubts slowly flow and ebb away, I just want to say too a heartfelt thank you for all your belief and support in this journey to discover sunshine and love together ☀️✨~ especially during those dark seasons when I couldn’t see much light at all 🖤🌚 There was so much love and acceptance through the ups and down. Thank YOU all who are (still) reading this caption for sticking around 🥲 Happy 9th ! 🌅🌆

[ An Auntie’s Love 💕 ]

The brief for this customised silhouette paper cut jar lamp order touched me a lot. I received a WhatsApp message from a client a couple of weeks back who told me she’ll like to gift her niece something special to cheer her up as she is going through a really rough time 🥹🙏 Her niece’s favourite cartoon character is Pluto, Mickey Mouse’s pet 💛

💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌💌

Dearest R, may lights guide you home and may your cares slowly ebb away. We hope we cheered your day up a little with this jar lamp! You are not alone and you are much loved x 🥰 Keep smiling, shining and sparkle! ✨

Thanks S for being such a fabulous Aunt! 💕

[ Project Sunshine Shelf 🌞 ]

Our sunshine shelf at is DEDICATED to YOU ❤️ ~ if you’re feeling curious, despondent, weary or just in need of a pick me up. We hope this children’s book “When The Sun Goes Home” by Momoko Abe and our little sunshine glass art will brighten your day a little ❤️

This sunshine story is very heartfelt to me because like the character Mr Sun in this children’s book, I could really identify with how he felt when he got tired of shining 🥲🥹. It’s been almost 1.5 years of sabbatical break since my depression relapse last year; I have taken a pretty long break from painting gifts. I’m not sure if I could ever get back to my same energy mode that I used to paint at again since we started in 2015 but it made me quietly happy to paint these simple cute sunshine glasses that’s on this shelf 🥹🌞

Maybe it’s about a restart, to begin again, starting small, and learning that the journey is not about a competition of fast or slow, but it’s about treasuring the process, the becoming, the moments being present to experience patience, kindness, joy and beauty around me 🎁. I’m secretly starting to enjoy this slower pace that I’m chugging along at now 🥲🙏

Thankful to for being so supportive to say yes to be part of this sunshine shelf with me 🌞💖 And thank you for dreaming this community library concept out loud 🤎 Can’t wait for to be finally ready and welcome everyone to take a shelf-pause with us at Alexandra Village! 🌞🌈🌧️🌤️🌦️

[ Milestone Gifts ]

When first contacted me in January to request for a surprise-customised-milestone-handpainted gift for her bestie , I was honestly really nervous as painting black animals is one of the toughest challenges to work on 🥲🖤. As black looks black to the eye, I had to think of ways to challenge the black paint tone and add layers and texture 🥹🖤.

So I went through the full blow of from the excitement of “yes I’ll do it for you both” - to my internal struggles of “oh manz, this is too hard” “how am I going to achieve this” to “alright let’s do it…I’m going to nail this artwork trusting God to bless my hands” to “this work in progress looks awful” “how does it even look like Coco” to “I can’t believe I finally completed it!” 🥹🖤🥹🖤.

The brief was to paint sweet Coco whom I believe is a black labradoodle (who is at the rainbow bridge now 🌈🥲). It took me a couple of months to complete this two precious glasses and I’m so glad the unboxing gift surprise for this sweet couple turning 50 AND 60 was a success !! What an amazing milestone!!! ❤️👫❤️

Thank you dear for your trust and patience with me the last few months to work on Coco 🥲❤️ AND happy birthday surprise dearest !! 💖✨💖✨ I hope you’ll have many more beautiful moments celebrating many many more milestone memories in your life, surrounded by all your loved ones ❤️🖤❤️🖤

🩷 A Peranakan Piece 🩵

It’s been a while since I sat down to “paint-inspire-challenge” myself on a personal project so when I saw the gorgeous Peranakan kebaya blouse that was wearing in The Little Nonya/Emerald Hill photoshoot on reel, I decided to secretly screenshot it and paint a birthday surprise for my boss at .sg ! 😉🤫🎨

I always love the intricate design on a Peranakan blouse so I hope I did justice to the design of the peony flowers on this kebaya lace! 🩷🩵 Swipe photos to the end to see the actual kebaya blouse design and also my nervous face smiling while gifting this glass art to 😮‍💨🤭🙃🙏

Happy (early!!) Birthday to you, Boss Jeanette AND Happy 3 years anniversary to .sg! Cheers to little simple joys in life and much happiness in all that you do; surrounded by love sweet love 💕

Our Story

“For the love of sunshine & handpainted gifts”

Sunshine & Love is a local artisan who focuses on creating happy handpainted gifts from your everyday objects. We love seeing these seemingly mundane items get transformed into unique works of art that can be used as vases, drinking jars, stationery holders, money banks, home decoration items etc. Every item created is unique and 100% handpainted.

About the Chief Painter

Amelia enjoys handpainting on your everyday objects like mason jars, plates, mugs, beer bottles, and even pasta sauce bottles! She loves seeing them transformed into happy gifts for the people around her. One of the things Amelia enjoys the most about creating jar and plate art is when her clients share their gift requests and design ideals. Each request is so unique and special! Besides individual requests, her clients include Sew Into It, All Saints Home, Coffee Today Cafe, Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, WorldWide Marriage Encounter, Singapore Tourism Board, Singapore Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. She has also collaborated with Terra Village, Sprout Language Centre and Chinatown Heritage Centre for festive workshops and events. Other signature events that Amelia has participated in include Singapore Design Week, Makers Faire, ArtBox Singapore, Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival Light up and URA’s Streets for People. Amelia currently also runs workshops at her cosy home studio conveniently located at Queenstown. For more of Amelia's handpainted gifts, you can also check out @sunshinenlove_sg on Instagram!
