17/11/2023

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on Orchard Road as Singapore’s famous shopping belt gets festive with lights, ornaments and interactive features for a magical Christmas at its annual Christmas light-up, Christmas On A Great Street.

This year’s light-up theme, “A Child’s Dreamscape”, features cotton candy clouds replete with Christmas trees, bells, teddy bears, reindeer and candy canes. Warm LED lights of white, yellow, pink and turquoise “clouds” float in the air for a dreamy look and feel.

Check out the first-ever street party on Christmas Eve between Paterson junction (ION Orchard) and Bideford junction (Ngee Ann City) from 8pm to 12.30am. Expect live music, street dance performances, stage games, roving magicians and balloon sculptors, Santa meet-and-greet sessions, Christmas carolling, photobooths, food trucks and a countdown with special AR effects enhancing the 3D projection mapping on the façade of Hilton Singapore Orchard.

Ride a double-storey carousel and ferris wheel at the Christmas village at Shaw House Urban Plaza from 24 November and have fun on the bouncy castle and craft workshops by Kiztopia at Plaza Singapura from 1 December. Over at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, from 8 December onwards, catch live performances, enjoy carnival rides and arcade games, grab a bite from food trucks, and discover pop-up stores.

If you love all things candylicious, you’ve gotta check out Changi Airport’s candy-themed wonderland featuring exciting carnival games and rides, a snow house, themed pop-ups, dinosaur mascots, fairy stilt walkers and Santa, of course!

Head over to Terminal 3’s (T3) departure hall to experience the sweet world of Candy Wonderland with its 5m-tall white bear, 7m-tall rotating cupcake Ferris wheel, candy cane lane, gingerbread house and picturesque Christmas fixtures. At night, look out for a light and snow show that will add on to the festive mood. Catch buskers, jugglers and a live marching band performing festive tunes on selected Friday and Saturday evenings.

At the Candy Carnival at T3’s arrival hall, there are carnival games and rides plus Changi-exclusive, confectionery-themed prizes to be won. The little ones can jump to their heart’s content on the Candy Bounce inflatable castle of desserts and take a ride on the Candy Kart go-kart course. More fun and games await at Basement 2 where there’s a candy-coated train and a whimsical merry-go-round.

Enjoy a frosty adventure at Candy Snow House. Discover intricately carved glowing ice sculptures and take a slide down the 5m-long snow slide or the 3m-long ice luge. You can also play games like basketball, snow bowling and mini golf on ice, as well as ride on a hand-pulled sleigh and skate around on a snow scooter.

There’s also “A Candylicious Night at the Airport” at Jewel Changi Airport's Changi Experience Studio (CES) where kids can attend a chocolate art jamming workshop to create edible pieces of art and decorate festive truffle balls. After a day of fun activities, wind down at the candy-themed tents at CES.

Don’t leave without shopping for items from BT21, Craftholic, Mofmo Friends, Mickey Loves SG and Miffy at the themed pop-ups at Terminals 2 and 3.

Get a glimpse of Mongolia’s natural beauty and open grasslands at Gardens by the Bay’s Chrysanthemum Charm floral display.

Running till 13 November at the Flower Dome, the floral display is inspired by the lush grasslands and meadows of Mongolia.

Over 80 varieties of colourful chrysanthemums, including over 10 varieties that have never been seen before in Southeast Asia, are interspersed with gorgeous blooms such as dianthus and asters, as well as scabiosa, Mongolia’s national flower, against a backdrop of Mongolia’s natural, cultural and lifestyle icons. These include a life-sized traditional ger (Mongolian for “home”) aka yurt, the Orkhon waterfall, as well as authentic Mongolian cultural artefacts like Mongolian nobleman bed and traditional costumes aka deel.

A flowering plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, chrysanthemums mostly blossom between August and November. Its name is coined from the Greek word "chrysos", which means gold, and "anthos", which means flower. Chrysanthemums also have various practical uses such as relieving a variety of physical symptoms like sore throats and headaches, as well as aiding digestion. Additionally, the leaves and stems of the flowers are used as ingredients in Chinese cuisine.

Art enthusiasts and collectors, immerse yourself in the rich and creative world of multi-talented abstract artist Zhang YiFei through a collection of installations at her “Metamorphosis” exhibition at The Arts House (Gallery II).

What makes Zhang’s work truly exceptional is its ability to challenge conventional artistic norms and expectations. Through her unique creative technique, her digital and visual art breaks away from traditional artistic conventions. Each of her stroke carries a profound meaning, sparking a mesmerising transformation on the canvas. The canvas comes alive with a tapestry of intricate emotions and sentiments, like the pages of an extraordinary journal.

With animations created by passionate 2D motion graphics designer Nicole Fun, expect a multi-sensory experience that will transport you to an imaginary world where not just your sense of sight are engaged but also your auditory senses through music composed by Zhang, who recently launched her debut EP, “Me and Me”.

Look out also for intricate and creative embroidery pieces by well-known Malaysian embroidery artist Anni Tai in one of Zhang’s installations.

Besides celebrating art, “Metamorphosis” also champions a great cause as 30% of the proceeds from the sale of Zhang’s artwork will be donated to Extra•Ordinary People.
