Meet Mr Sin 😊
Mr Sin is a man of many hats - a father, a chef, a smoking cessation advocate, and an oesophageal speech trainer at New Voice Club. In June 2015, he was told he had only 6 months left to live due to a cancer in his throat, unless he went through a surgery to remove his voice box. Today - 8 years later - he continues to inspire others going through similar experiences, speaking with his oesophagus (food pipe).
The New Voice Club is a support group for people with head and neck cancer. Some members have had their vocal cords removed and have lost their voices completely. The club aims to help members discover their new voices, with or without speech devices. It also provides emotional support to members and their families. Speech practice sessions conducted by its members have enabled many to regain their confidence in communicating with others. To find out more about the support group, please email [email protected] or calling 6499 9138.

June is a big month for us Speech Therapists. It’s Aphasia AND Dysphagia awareness month! 🎊
#Aphasia 🗣️👂✍️ 📖
Aphasia is a language disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate. Individuals with aphasia may have difficulties understanding language, speaking, reading, and/or writing. It is often acquired as a result of brain damage.
#Dysphagia 🍽️🥤👄
Dysphagia refers to difficulties with swallowing. Individuals with dysphagia may experience challenges in eating and drinking, possibly affecting their mealtime experiences as well as their nutritional intake. Difficulties may be experienced in the mouth, throat, and/or food pipe (esophagus).
Meet Stuti! 👋 Stuti runs a page sharing her journey after a brain haemorrhage in May 2018. She had to re-learn how to use the right side of her body, as well as learn to speak and eat again. She hopes to inspire others with her strength and perseverance. This will be her #341 post in her documented journey! ☺️
This month, let’s raise awareness of Dysphagia and Aphasia as well as their impacts on daily life. Together, we can advocate for better understanding and support. 📢 ❤️

May is #ApraxiaAwareness Month. Apraxia of Speech affects the coordination of speech muscles, making it difficult to produce clear and accurate sounds. It can be acquired (e.g. through stroke) or during a child’s language learning process (i.e. childhood apraxia of speech).
To end this month off, we are featuring Reena, our bubbly friend! Reena would like to share her journey with Childhood Apraxia of Speech with everyone. 💙🗣️ You can check her works out at @evolstudiosg 🎨

Speech Therapy Week 2022 is coming to an end - but the connections we make, as Speech Therapists, will continue….
#saltssingapore #STWeek2022 #ConnectionandSTs
**Speech therapy Week** is here!
We’re celebrating the ‘ Connections’ we make as speech therapists everyday - with clients, caregivers and co workers/peers to share our knowledge and grow as professionals!
We CONNECT FOR those who have swallowing or communication difficulties so that they can connect with life’s big and small moments. Moments like sharing a meal together, and communicating with loved ones. COVID showed us that we can and must connect even over distance. So what better way to commemorate our profession than to celebrate connection and connect with all our stakeholders including you.
