Thinking back, I recall that I was given the opportunity to be part of a new business set up as a shareholder. A presentation was done and I was convinced that this business would work be a major success base on the analytics done, facts and figures.
I was interested and wanted a part of it hence decided to ask how much i have to invest to be part of this project. I was offered SGD150,000 to be a shareholder which honestly is not a lot now but at that time, I was only 25.
I had that amount of money sitting in my bank and I could’ve been part of the venture but I did not. In my head, questions start popping out.
‘What if business doesn’t take off’
‘What if my friend is out to scam my money’
‘What if their market analysis was inaccurate’
‘What if it takes years to break even’
‘What if I lose all my money, I saved these money to buy my house’
The list goes on and I’m sure you know what my decision was. All these questions that I ask myself were out of nothing but the fear of failure, the fear of losing everything that I have and the fear that I’m not good enough.
All that fear I had stopped me from being part of a successful business today that would passively make me 5 figure every month doing nothing.
Well of course I’m not saying that we should jump into any offer that’s given to us. Study the business, work out the numbers and do our very own due diligence before making a logical decision with minimal emotion. Why minimal emotions? Because emotions such as fear will cause us to make mistakes.
‘’I WANT TO BE DEBT FREE!’’
Very often we hear people around us say they wanna clear their debts as soon as possible because they don’t wanna be paying too much interest or have a 30 years mortgage to pay. But the funny thing is, they somehow still own a car, a liability that would only depreciate over the years.
What if I tell you that being in debt is a good thing? That is of course if you are in a good debt. What are good debts? As you can see in my post above, good debts refer to Housing Loans and Business Loans.
Why are they good debts? Simply because these debts makes you money and hedge against inflation. When you deal with your property and business properly, you will realise that it’s not you who is paying the interest and yet grow your assets. In other words, the money spent here are working for you.
On the other hand, you wanna be free from bad debts! Once again you can see in my post, bad debts refer to Credit Card Loans, Car Loans, Consumer Loans and Personal Loans. These are going straight into the liabilities column and they will not make you money!
We all have a choice today, do you wanna buy assets or liabilities?
Believe it or not, sometimes success or failure boils down to one word, mindset.
Have you asked yourself: “why is it that everything I do don’t seem to be going the way I wanted, why is it that I always fail? What luck!”
Actually it all has got to do with our mindset and sometimes we are being negative without even knowing it.
Let us all take a step back and look at our problems from a bigger, wider perspective. We will realise that very often it’s what we do because of how we think and not bad luck or other people who caused it.
Be more aware of our own thinking and turn negativity into positivity. Make it a habit and I assure you that you’ll taste sweet success in most that you do!
