WHY IS CRAFTING GOOD FOR OUR MENTAL WELLBEING?
———————————————————
There’s something very simple, wholesome and nearly childlike about crafting. Some of us may consider it as a great escape while some may take it as a way to recharge ourselves from day to day chores and worries. You can craft with others or alone, whatever works best for you. There are no screens, tech or virtual likes involved, it’s just you and real, tangible materials. And then there’s that amazing feeling of satisfaction when you’ve completed a project or a piece, a real sense of pride and achievement in what you’ve created.
Allowing ourselves to be creative also helps manage feelings of anxiety, depression and stress. It is also known to help with dementia.
We made this acrylic pressed flowers coasters two weeks back and shared with #thesundaypausecommunity
It’s been quite a journey ourselves, learning more as we craft along. Our hope is to encourage mental wellness to be practiced wherever you are and that there are plenty of ways to support us in our growth journeys. The best part about crafting is, YOU DON’T NEED TO BE GOOD AT ART. Because you’re not crafting for an exam. You’re crafting for you ❤️
Cannot wait already to share this week’s craft. I did this over binge watching a k-drama on the couch. I’ve been a little restless and when I’m restless, crafting and tv is one outlet for me to relax and manage my anxiety when I just simply don’t feel like going out. But I’m back on medication and will continue to strive to feel and get well for me. I do hope to be a little more active like I used to but for now, I’m going to be grateful for the little steps I’m taking to take care of myself❤️

For our upcoming #soulartsession , we will also be learning embroidery with Fleurrustic !
I first met Nasyitah during one of our Brunch Talks and I love just how passionate she is towards her craft. Nasyitah is a self taught seamstress and embroider that creates from her heart. Her designs are inspired by her travel journeys, people & daily life.
Since 2014, she has taught hundreds of ladies and children the art of hand sewing & embroidery in schools and private or commissioned workshops.
For our upcoming session, Nasyitah will be sharing with us techniques and stitches such as leaf, lazy daisy, french knot and spider web rose stitch to create a masterpiece together with our Hapa Zome prints.

Here at Asha&Co, we focus on mediums that can support us in practicing mental wellness in our everuday. Art is one of the many mediums that have proven its benefits to the mind, body and soul. When practicing art as a self-care tool, your senses are activated and they require you to reconnect with your inner being and voice.
Hapa Zome is one of the many techniques.
What is Hapa Zome and what are it’s benefits?
Hapa Zome is a Japanese word meaning 'leaf dye' and is given to the process of transferring the natural pigments from leaves and flowers onto fabric or paper to create a botanical image. It’s process is one that is therapeutic and encourages curiosity and creativity. The rhythm in transferring the dyes into cloth is calming and also exciting.
We’ll be having our first ever #soulartsession for 2019 and I’m really honoured to be doing this with Fleurrustic who will be guiding the participants in the embroidery process. That’s two skills in one session + good food + good vibes 😍
We’ve still have spots available for this session. Drop us a DM/hop over the link in our profile for more details!

Hello growth warriors!
I’m back safely and here’s me sharing one of my many favourite moments during my adventures in Sapa last week. Here, I am learning traditional embroidery from Mae Kim, from the native Red Dao Tribe. I’m super excited to bring the rest of our ladies in April to experience this for our Light Within Me Retreat!
It’s been quite a learning experience for me and one that is humbling as well❤️
I’ll be sharing more sneaks of the adventures that’s in store for our upcoming retreat. It will be up in our highlights soon!
A few announcements as well:
1) Sunday’s Newsletter is in your 💌 already! My apologies for the delay! This week, I share 5 reminders to stay motivated when you just don’t feel like it. It’s been a rough few days for me after coming back from a lovely trip and this letter was something very personal for me and I hope you may find it beneficial.
2) If you are a lover of language + books + poetry, we’ll be sharing something special for you at 9PM later ❤️
Meanwhile, if you can please help me make du’a for my health!

Here are our awesome ladies from our first brunch talk of 2019!
We discussed about letting go of burdens that hold us back and it was truly a learning experience for me to learn from the rest of the ladies as well!
Today in the #thesundaypausecommunity , I shared a step by step thought process that we can practice when we’ve set an intention to let go of a negative experience or habit.
If you’ve not yet subscribed, click the link in our profile and drop me a DM after so that I may share with you the link to today’s letter ❤️

Throwback #soulcookingsession with Amal and Saiful!
Couples cooking sessions are slowly becoming one of my favourites. Especially when you're a curious cat like me and want to know everything from how people meet, the first date and then catch them blushing at each other while reminiscing the memories. But I'm not going to lie, from time to time we enter the food war zone especially when one of them forgets their anniversary date 😂
Cannot wait to share 2018 menus with all of you!
Kids baking Programme happening now! Tirmidzi and Insyirah sieving the flour is too cute to not share! 😂
