Employing a Japanese-inspired minimalist aesthetic in this family home ensures that the interiors are clutter-free and effortlessly manageable. In the living area, warm oak carpentry is balanced out with cool grey flooring. A tinted mirrored sliding door visually enlarges the living area, while discreetly concealing the entrance to the study area.

A custom-designed glass sliding door confines heavy cooking smells and grease to the wet kitchen. The use of patterned glass framed within arches speaks to the continued design language. Golden handles on the drawers and cupboards add touches of shine to the dark laminates used.

A clever design feature of the dry kitchen is the movable island counter that contains storage and display shelves. The mobile counter can be shifted around to accommodate different dining situations.

Anchoring the dining area is a wall of ventilation blocks with built-in lighting. The subtle illumination not only brightens the space but also serves as a partition between the dining table and the island counter. The entrance to the storeroom is cleverly concealed by the dark grey wall.

Curved forms take centre stage in the living area, evident in the undulating patterns of the rug and the circular body of the coffee table. The highlight is the arched window and bookshelf. Integrated into the wall behind the sofa, these elements serve as a partition between the study and the living area, evoking an Art Deco aesthetic.

Art Deco meets Peranakan in this HDB home that was designed with flexibility to grow with a young family. Curves, arches, and vertical lines weave through the design of this home in an eclectic fusion that has resulted in a cosy yet sophisticated ambiance.

The design of the master bathroom is intended to evoke the opulence of a Moroccan bathhouse. To this effect, we picked three-dimensional tiles in a warm peach tone for the vanity’s backsplash and hung a gorgeous lantern. Without going over the top, hexagon tiles with timber-like patterns line a path towards, and clad, the shower stall.

A peach-pink hallway leads into the master suite while the rest of the bedroom deliberately follows a palette of neutral colours and is kept minimal with clean lines. An L-shaped storage unit lines two sides of the room with its gentle curves.

In the daughter’s bedroom, twin arches frame the built-in storage and wardrobe unit. The curvature forms a snug alcove for the bedframe, and the addition of artificial hanging plants imparts a serene resort-like ambience.

The bedroom at the top of the stairs, designated for the homeowner's elderly mother, embraces a serene colour scheme of white and gold. With clever spatial planning, a wall partition at the room's entrance features an intricately carved, whitewashed wooden screen. The rear serves as both a storage and a display area for the mother's bags. Additionally, shutters that open over the stairs provide a view of the family’s much-loved art piece.

Immersed in a predominantly white palette, the shared bathroom features scallop-shaped tiles adorning the washbasin's backsplash. Complementing this, an arched mirror mirrors the graceful curvature of the scallop motifs, contributing to the overall design harmony.

Shutter windows have been added to the bedroom at the top of the stairs to enhance the room’s ventilation and invite natural light into the stairwell. At the stair landing, sharp edges are softened with gentle curves, and breeze blocks impart a decorative flair to the space.

With thoughtful planning, the kitchen was reconfigured to fulfil the family’s lifestyle needs and optimise efficiency. We incorporated eye-catching mosaic tiles on the floor to emulate a floor runner of sorts that demarcates the cooking and washing area.

Referencing the scallop details of Moroccan architecture, we designed an arched window that links the kitchen to the dining. Behind the arched window, we ensured there was ample countertop space for meal preparation and handling laundry tasks.

A typical feature commonly seen in HDB maisonettes is the balcony. We reclaimed this space and repurposed it as a bright and airy dining area. The low false ceiling was opened up to expose the existing wooden beams to craft a dining space reminiscent of a patio or outdoor setting. An arched Morrocan-inspired window with a laser-cut pattern connects the dining to the kitchen, facilitating convenient meal service.

Our design direction marries modernity with crisp, sleek lines, punctuated by graceful arches and curves that accentuate the distinctive Moroccan silhouette with the warmth of resort living.
