One more thing checked off of my bucket list thanks to Kinley Tshering and our driver, Sigyel Dorji. A memorable trip to the Land of the Thunder Dragon on 27 March – 2 April 2025.
​
Coming from a Catholic background, I had little exposure to Buddhism, but Kinley’s storytelling changed that. He introduced me to its teachings in such an engaging and thoughtful way that I left Bhutan with a new perspective on life.
​
Kinley wasn’t just a guide—he was our motivator, comedian, and walking encyclopedia all rolled into one. His witty humor kept us laughing, even when our legs were questioning our life choices during the hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest). But thanks to his patience and well-timed jokes, we made it to the top. We did it!
​
Kinley also suggested soaking our sore feet in the ice-cold river water right after the hike. We were reminded of the joy and serenity coming from sitting quietly at the riverbanks and listening to the therapeutic sound of the stream.
​
A big shoutout to Sigyel, whose calm and expert driving made sure we reached every destination safely—despite the winding mountain roads and our occasional gasps from the backseat!

Druk Asia made my trip to Bhutan very special. Everything was very well organized and timely. Since I am solo traveller, quick responses from Mr Sangay made me very comfortable about the trip. My guide Mr Choki was absolutely amazing. Very patient, kind, knowledgeable, with great sense of humor. He made my trip unforgetable. Drivers Mr Sonam and Mr Tashi made sure trips were safe. Hospitality in Bhutan is beyond description. Every hotel was carefully picked up, rooms were comfortable with amazing views. Abundance of food, welcoming staff in every hotel. The irony is that many concerts and festivals have become formulaic. You buy eye-wateringly expensive tickets, enter a cookie-cutter set-up, use Portaloos, queue for the obligatory merchandise, and get drinks from the same brands as everywhere else, after which you return to your overpriced hotel room.

In contrast, Bhutan’s first concert by an international artist – a gesture that the isolated kingdom is ready to engage more with the world, and a signal of its global ambitions to its restless youth – offered a more original, uncommercial way to do things.
