MOUNT PLEASANT & KOPI SUA WALKING TOUR
Wed, 22nd May 2024, Vesak Day
8.30am to 12pm

Step into a hidden chapter of Singapore’s past as we explore the captivating Mount Pleasant Road. This lesser-known gem has earned its stripes as one of our cherished “Heritage Roads” – a title reserved for the most enchanting thoroughfares.

*Mount Pleasant Road: A winding ribbon of history, this scenic route beckons both walkers and drivers. But beyond its rustic charm lies a tale of courage – the echoes of fierce World War II battles resonate along these very lanes.

*Black & White Mansions: Majestic and timeless, these stately homes stand as reminders of the once-mighty British Empire. Imagine the stories they hold within their walls.

*Senior Police Officers’ Mess (SPOM): At 153 Mount Pleasant Road, this historic building whispers secrets of bygone days. Breathe in the crisp air and soak in the soothing scenery here.

*Kopi Sua: Our short walk leads us to this intriguing spot. Why “Kopi Sua”? Some say it’s named after failed coffee plantations; others claim it’s the “brown-ish” soil colour. Either way, it’s a slice of tranquillity.

Meeting Point: Marymount MRT (Exit A, street level). Join us at 8:30 am on Vesak Day, 22nd May 2024. From there, we’ll hop on a bus to the junction of Mount Pleasant Road and Thomson Road – the gateway to our adventure.

Our journey concludes at the bus stop in front of Fun’s Florist along Thomson Road around 11:30am, perhaps 12pm. Let's take a walk, explore and create unforgettable memories!

GEYLANG RED-LIGHT DISTRICT WALKING TOUR
Thurs, 30th May 2024
7pm to 10pm

Attention, time-conscious explorers! If your schedule is tight, we’ve crafted a condensed version of the Geylang Red-Light District Walking Tour, Singapore’s renowned red-light district just for you. Buckle up for an intriguing journey through the heart of this enigmatic district.

History: In the 1950s, Bugis Street was the hotbed of s*x trade, teeming with trans women and s*x workers. But by the 1970s, the police cracked down on these activities, leading to the decline of Bugis Street. Enter Geylang – a place where paid s*xual services found a new home.

The Neon Lights: Today, Geylang is Singapore’s legal red-light district. It stretches from Lorong 2 to Lorong 30, where neon signs beckon and secrets linger. Durians and good food share the spotlight with the world’s oldest profession.

Uncle Chris Unleashed: Brace yourselves for an informative and (‘dare-we-say’) educational tour. We won’t shy away from the sensitive and intimate details. Ever wondered about the difference between “cheap thrills” and “high-class scandals”? Let’s dive in for more details.

Behind Closed Doors: We’ll walk the streets from Lorong 12 to Lorong 18, unravelling secrets along the way. And yes, we’ll discuss how a professional “handles” a customer. No flinching here!

Meeting Point: Join me at Aljunied MRT (next to Mos Burger) at 7pm on Thurs, 30th May 2024. Remember, this is a highly adult walking tour– come with an open mind, as some terms may be explicit and graphic.

CONCUBINES & MISTRESSES: BUKIT PASOH WALKING TOUR
Sun, 26th May 2024
9am to 12pm

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to step into a world of intrigue, passion, and secrets – the Concubines & Mistresses Walking Tour awaits! Love, desire, and yes, a touch of scandal – it’s all part of the story.

The Unequal Equation: Destiny dealt its cards, and mankind found itself unequal. Among consorts, concubines, mistresses, and secret lovers, the wife holds a pivotal role. She keeps the family’s order intact, while others dance to different tunes, with perhaps lesser responsibility.

Ladies of Pleasure: Old-fashioned? Not quite. Throughout history, emperors and kings indulged in the allure of concubines and mistresses. Some “men of distinction” kept more than a few. And guess what? Singapore followed suit.

Secrets and Favoured Haunts: Some relationships thrived in secrecy, while others were open secrets. Our city had its favourite spots where these “men of distinction” met their clandestine companions.

Bukit Pasoh: Today, its beautifully conserved shophouses and buildings stand as silent witnesses. Once, they housed lucky women who sought comfort with wealthy men. But what was life like for these women? We’ll stroll down this short street and imagine.

Define and Capture: Bring your dictionary – we’ll unravel the true meanings of consort, concubine, mistress, secret lover, and wife. And don’t forget your cameras –some spots are Instagram-worthy!

Join us at 9:00 am on Sunday, 26th May 2024. As for where this tour ends? Well, that’s a delightful mystery we’ll uncover together!

Meeting Point: Outram Park MRT station (Exit 4, in the direction of Dorsett Hotel, street level).

PERANAKAN CULTURE AT JOO CHIAT & KATONG
Sat, 25th May 2024
9am to 12pm

Peranakan: A term that stirs curiosity and whispers of a rich heritage. But when did it all begin? Let’s unravel the threads of this captivating culture.

Hang Li Po’s Legacy: Some say it started with Hang Li Po – the 15th-century beauty who graced Malaya as the Sultan of Malacca’s fifth wife. Her entourage of 500 included pretty dames and honourable men. Their intermarriage with locals birthed a vibrant fusion of fashion, cuisine, and customs – the Peranakan way.

Immigrant Melting Pot: But wait! Other immigrants arrived in Singapore long before Hang Li Po. As far back as the 10th century, they brought their traditions, weaving them into our cultural fabric. The result? Our present-day Peranakan Culture.

True-Blue Nonyas and Babas: Once, they lived life with prominence – these were the last true-blue Peranakans. But after World War II, their status waned. By the '70s and '80s, the Nonyas and Babas were fading stars.

Culinary Treasures: For us common folk, Peranakan cuisine is the real gem. The flavours, and the spices, beckon us to savour their legacy. Let’s keep this food culture alive!

Global Impact: Thanks to “The Little Nonya” (2008), our local TV series, the Peranakan movement gained global attention. Even China tuned in!

Let’s celebrate Peranakan vibrancy, one step at a time!

Meeting Point: Join us at 9am on Sat, 25th of May 2024 at the Joo Chiat Complex (in front of Money Max). This tour will end at East Coast Road at about 12pm.

SEMBAWANG BLACK & WHITE WALKING TOUR
Sun, 19th May 2024
9am to 12pm

Step into a time capsule and join me on an extraordinary journey through the heart of Sembawang. This isn’t your average stroll – it’s a captivating exploration of history, architecture, and hidden treasures.

*Black & White Houses: Imagine elegant colonial-era homes, adorned with lush gardens and steeped in stories. These magnificent structures, complete with war bunkers, stand as living relics from the early 1900s. Get up close and personal with their timeless charm.

*Canberra Road: Once a humble 2-way lane, Canberra Road has witnessed transformations. Most of it now caters to modern infrastructure, but a precious stretch remains untouched -- much the same as it was in the early 1900s.

*Bermuda Road, St John’s Road, and Canada Road: Our path winds through these enchanting streets, where British ambience meets HDB estates. Feel the echoes of bygone days as we explore the nooks and crannies. Step back into the 1920s and 1930s. It’s surreal – a quiet enclave just meters away from bustling Sembawang.

*“The Strip”: Our tour culminates here. In the 1960s, this spot was notorious for brawls and debauchery. What tales lie hidden within this infamous spot?

Homeward Bound: We’ll hop on a bus back to Sembawang MRT. Or perhaps you’d prefer lunch at The Strip? !

Meeting Point: Sembawang MRT (near the control station). Look out for me. I’ll be there at 9:00 am. Let’s walk, talk, and discover the magic of Sembawang together!

BOAT QUAY & ELGIN BRIDGE NIGHT WALK
Sat, 18th May 2024
7pm to 9.30pm

Singapore, under the moon’s gentle glow, transforms into a mesmerizing man-made wonder. Amidst the glittering skyline, we’re embarking on a sightseeing adventure – exploring hidden gems that often go unnoticed.

*Boat Quay: This riverside gem where history dances with modernity, offers a glimpse of our heritage. During the 1800s, Boat Quay bustled with activity as goods were transferred onto cargo ships.

Conservation efforts by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in 1989 saw the shophouses preserved and repurposed into new businesses. Today, they stand as bustling establishments, preserving the area’s heritage.

*Elgin Bridge: An architectural marvel connecting heritage and progress, Elgin Bridge started life as a wooden drawbridge built in the 1820s. Then, In 1862, an iron bridge replaced the wooden one and was named Elgin Bridge after James Bruce, 8th Earl of Elgin, who had served as Governor-General of India. By 1929, the iron bridge made way for a new concrete bridge, which still stands today.

In 2019, it was gazetted as the 73rd National Monument of Singapore, alongside Anderson Bridge and Cavenagh Bridge – the iconic Singapore River Bridges.

And now, brace yourselves for the mysteries on this tour:-

*The Tang Shipwreck: Ever wondered why we paid millions for it? Let’s dive into this captivating tale.

*American Dinosaurs at Lee Kong Chian Museum: Yes, you read that right! Dinosaurs in Singapore? Let’s unravel the secrets of these fossilised giants.

TOA PAYOH HERITAGE TRAIL
Sun, 5th May 2024
9am to 11am

Step back in time as we unravel the captivating history of Toa Payoh. From its humble beginnings as a vast swamp, this neighbourhood has transformed into Singapore’s pride in housing for the common folk.

In 1960, the Housing Development Board (HDB) emerged, determined to reshape Toa Payoh’s destiny. Inspired by earlier projects in Tiong Bahru and Queenstown, HDB embarked on a monumental task – the creation of a thriving community.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Cultural nuances, heritage challenges, and livelihood intricacies coloured the journey.

Toa Payoh, designed to accommodate 250,000 residents, faced unexpected twists. Why did the grand vision fall short? Join us on this immersive tour as we explore the trials and tribulations behind this colossal housing project.

Fast forward sixty years and the landscape has shifted. HDB applicants now wait just a few years for their turn.

Let’s meet at Toa Payoh MRT on Sun, 5th of May 2024 at 9am. Look out for the escalator to your left upon alighting – it leads to the street level, right in front of Toastbox. I’ll be there, enjoying my breakfast. If you arrive early, let’s share a coffee together!

NASSIM ROAD WALKING TOUR
Sun, 28th April 2024
9am to 11.30am

Are you ready for a walk through Singapore's most luxurious and exclusive neighbourhood? Join me on a tour of the Land of The Rich & Famous, where every bungalow is worth millions and even a small condo has a hefty price tag.

We'll take a slow stroll along the famous Nassim Road, and use 3xx Nassim Road as our case study to explore how real estate has evolved in Singapore over such a short time.

By the end of the tour, you'll have to decide whether you want to be super rich, self-sufficient, or just comfortably wealthy. But be warned - the rich and famous are often too famous for their own good, and tourists may come ogling at their front yard.

We'll meet at 9am at the Orchard Rendezvous Hotel (formerly Orchard Parade Hotel, which was formerly Ming Court Hotel!) at 1, Tanglin Road, Singapore 247905. The tour will end at the Botanic Gardens (Cluny Side) at around 11:30am, just in time for a delicious lunch.

So what are you waiting for? Let's explore the extravagant side of Singapore and get inspired to work smarter, not just harder.

BUKIT BROWN AVATAR TREE TRAIL
Sat, 27th Apr 2024
8.30am to 12pm

Wow, you're in for a real adventure! Imagine trekking through the lush jungle of Bukit Brown Cemetery, feeling the thrill of being an explorer like Indiana Jones. But before you set off, make sure you're prepared with good trekking gear - a sturdy pair of shoes and a positive attitude!

You'll be rewarded with some amazing sights along the way, like the mysterious Peugeot 504 car that's been left to rot in the jungle. It's just one of five cars that have been consumed by Mother Nature, and they make for an incredible conversation piece. So don't forget to bring your cameras!

But the real highlight of this expedition are the towering Avatar trees. Standing tall and proud, they're a sight to behold and will transport you to the magical world of the movie. But here's the catch - these trees won't be around forever. They're set to make way for a brand-new Bukit Brown HDB Estate. So come with me now, before it's too late!

We'll meet at Marymount MRT, Exit A, street level, at 8.30am on Saturday, 27th April 2024. This tour will end at the bus stop along Lornie Highway, and we should be done by about 11.30 or 12pm. So what are you waiting for? Let's embark on this unforgettable adventure together!

We'll meet up at 7 pm sharp and embark on an adventure that'll take us from Lorong 12 to Lorong 18. The best part? We'll have more time to explore and less narration, so you can soak up the sights and sounds of the community.

Uncle Chris is leading the way, and he's fantastic! He'll share his knowledge and insights on a sensitive and intimate subject, making this tour both educational and moving. We'll wrap it up by 9:30pm or 10pm at the latest, giving you plenty of time to explore the area on your own and catch the train home from Aljunied MRT.

Despite the shorter hours, there is still time to dissect the difference between “cheap s*x” and “high-class scandals”. We’ll even go into detail how the pr******te will “handle” you, in case you should become a “customer”.

Join me for a walking tour from Lorong 12 to Lorong 18. However, please be aware that this tour is meant for adults only and may contain explicit and graphic content. Therefore, it is important to approach the tour with an open mind.

We will meet at Aljunied MRT station at 7pm on Thursday, April 25th, 2024. You can find me next to Mos Burger.

GEYLANG RED-LIGHT DISTRICT WALKING TOUR
Thurs, 11th Apr 2024
7pm to 11pm

This is the updated full-length version of the most comprehensive Red-Light District Walking Tour in Singapore. We will meet at 7pm and finish by 11pm, giving us enough time to catch the train home from Aljunied MRT.

I, Uncle Chris, will provide an informative and educational tour on a subject as sensitive and intimate as this. We will explore the difference between "cheap s*x" and "high-class scandals." I will even explain how a pr******te may interact with you, in case you become a "customer." We will walk the streets from Lorong 12 to Lorong 24A.

This tour is not suitable for everyone and is highly adult in nature.

Parents who find it difficult to discuss such subjects with their adult children may find this tour informative. Please note that some terms used may be explicit and graphic.

Please come with an open mind and wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring an umbrella in case it rains. The rain may add a certain charisma to this walk!

If you prefer a shorter version of this tour, please consider joining the "compressed" tour on 25th April 2024.
