You don’t have to ski to enjoy the beautiful view of the winter landscape.

Winter doesn’t have to be just about skiing. The mountains have a very special atmosphere and tranquility even in winter hike. Take a walk to one of the twelve mountain huts in the High Tatras or take a cable car up the hill in one of the ski resorts and enjoy the exceptional peace in the winter light.

But be careful! This type of hiking has its own pitfalls! Always monitor the weather conditions and avalanche warnings! Don’t forget to take suitable footwear – climbing crampons or non-slip boots. Wear warm clothes – just in case, add some extra layers. Take a hot tea with you and enjoy your adventure safely.

The regions of the Tatras and Liptov are known not only for their beautiful nature, but also for their rich culinary tradition. The main pillar of local gastronomy is sheep, which play a key role in the mountain economy.

😊🐑 Sheep breeding has a long history in the Tatras and Liptov, as these animals are perfectly adapted to harsh mountain conditions. They provide not only meat and wool, but above all, high-quality milk from which traditional Slovak cheeses are made. Sheep farms, where sheep graze on mountain meadows, are an important part of the landscape and cultural heritage.

Sheep milk specialties
🍴 Bryndza - Probably the most famous Slovak product made from sheep milk. It is a soft, salty cheese with a distinctive flavor that is the basis of bryndza dumplings, the national dish of Slovakia.

🍴 Oštiepok – Smoked or unsmoked semi-hard cheese in a typical oval shape. It has a mild creamy flavor and is often served as an appetizer or grilled.

🍴 Parenica – A soft, coiled cheese made by boiling and stretching the cheese mass. It can be natural or smoked.

🍴 Žinčica – A traditional whey drink that is created as a by-product of bryndza production. It has a slightly sour taste and is a popular addition to meals at mountain huts.

Typical dishes of the Tatras and Liptov
🥔 Bryndza dumplings – A combination of potato dumplings, bryndza and bacon creates a hearty and iconic dish of Slovakia.
🥩 Mutton and mutton – Prepared in various ways, most often roasted or in the form of goulash.
🥖 Liptov offal – A traditional dish made from groats, potatoes, pork and spices, baked in a casing.
