On the 19th of November, 2024, the Students’ Tourism Hub executed its first school-to-school tour at the Sierra Leone Grammar School compound. Focusing on sensitising school-going pupils, explaining two broad areas- *Tree Planting and Waste Management*.

They emphasized the effects of tree planting. Identifying the roles trees play in the Carbon Cycle - absorb carbon (C02), providing Oxygen. Its usefulness to biodiversity, conservation, sustainable tourism and economies. Also, pinpointing the impacts of cutting down trees on global warming which disturbs our lives, business and work.

Waste management was also discussed. Its crucial roles in sustainable development, job creation through recycling ♻️, reduction and mitigation of greenhouses-methane, Carbondioxide and carbon monoxide, Responsible waste management practices in schools like reusable water kits to avoid littering of plastics and plastic cups. Waste burying in place of burning etc. on the other hand, the impact of poor waste management- breeding grounds for bacteria( diseases).

Sustainable Tourism relies on adequate treeplanting and waste management. The hub admonished students to mitigate the impact of gases from waste, and that of deforestation while we maximize the practice sustainable tourism in our environments.

STUDENTS’ TOURISM HUB

The Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day, organised by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) on the 12th of October 2024 is the largest running annual youth adaptation event taking place in over 100 countries around the world.
This mobilization of young people driving adaptation actions focuses on how young people can play a big role in helping communities in Sierra Leone and around the world adapt to climate change and our goals align with such movement.

Today some members of the Students' Tourism Hub attended a Lighthouse event by YICA-SL. We got to interact with many like-minded individuals. The Hub has been on the journey of advocating for sustainable livelihoods through Tourism and we are passionate about climate actions while focusing on our local communities and schools.

Our participation was felt during the breakout session as one of our members Hassan facilitated a group discussion.

With panel discussions, breakout sessions and the highlight of the event, an educative présentation on the Theme: 'Empowering Youth for Climate Resilience: Advancing Adaptive Solutions for Sierra Leones Future' by the keynote speaker Mr. Henry David Bayoh, the first YCAAD was a success.

We from the Students' Tourism Hub were fortunate to grace such an event. We look to creating more awareness.
