Ukrainian special forces ‘in Sudan operating against Russian mercenaries’

Ukrainian special forces are reportedly operating in Sudan in support of the country’s army against Russian Wagner mercenaries aligned with the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to a video released on Monday.

The Kyiv Post released a short film which it said came from sources within Ukrainian military intelligence, responsible for covert operations, showing a captured Russian prisoner being interrogated alongside two African men.

The Russian soldier says he is from “PMC Wagner” and came into Sudan from the Central African Republic, where fighters from the Russian group are based, “to overthrow the local government” with a force of about 100.

Hon Stephen Dhieu Dau today chaired the SSRA-BoD and visited the TaX Academy offices. In addition, the board managed to examine the SSRA revenue collection of the first half of FY 2023/2024. In general, the Authority is functioning properly, with SSP 146.8 B. collected between July & December 2023, accounting for 60% of the whole Fiscal Year forecast of SSP245. B. This indicates that senior management & the general workforce are doing well. However, we have several strategies that must be implemented to improve the effectiveness as well as tax administration and compliance.

MSF launches Hepatitis E vaccination campaign in Fangak County

January 30, 2024 (FANGAK) – The international medical charity, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has launched a mass Hepatitis E vaccination campaign to reach remote communities and prevent more deaths in Jonglei State’s Fangak County.

MSF said the campaign was launched in collaboration with the Health ministry to protect women and girls of reproductive age, who are at greatest risk of death from the deadly disease.

Since April 2023, 501 cases of hepatitis E have reportedly been treated at the MSF hospital in Old Fangak, Jonglei State, and 21 people – mainly women – have died.

The vaccination campaign, according to the medical charity, is the first to be conducted during the acute stages of an active outbreak and in such a remote and isolated part of South Sudan – is intended to prevent further loss of life.
