Turks and Caicos Islands Receives Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council

PROVIDENCIALES, TURKS AND CAICOS (October 20, 2020) – The Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board, the exclusive tourism authority for the Turks and Caicos Islands, is proud to announce that the destination has received the Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The stamp of approval denotes the Turks and Caicos Islands’ existing safety protocols align with the core requirements established by the WTTC, along with governments and health experts, which are designed to standardize safe travel.

“We are pleased to receive the Safe Travels Stamp from the WTTC and feel certain this certification of our hygiene and safety protocols, combined with our TCI Assured program, will further build upon traveler confidence in safely visiting the Turks and Caicos Islands,” said Pamela Ewing, Director of Tourism for the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board.

“Our Safe Travels stamp is proving a great success and we are delighted to see even more popular countries and destinations adopt our global health and hygiene protocols," said Gloria Guevara, WTTC president and CEO. “The success of the WTTC Safe Travels stamp shows its importance not only to countries and destinations but also, crucially, to travelers and the 330 million people around the world who work in and depend on, travel and tourism sector."

The WTTC health and safety guidelines were developed to adhere to precise guidelines from the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Safe Travels initiative has also received the recognition and support of the United National World Tourism Organization. To achieve the Safe Travels Stamp, the Turks and Caicos Islands ensured its safety guidelines aligned with the WTTC’s core requirements, including specific protocols taken behind the scenes and when welcoming guests. These include, but are not limited to, urging proper physical distancing, enforcing capacity limits, ensuring proper hand washing techniques and sanitation, among other core ‘Safe Travels’ requirements.

The Turks and Caicos Island Tourist Board encourages travelers to consider the Safe Travels vacation destination for 2020 and 2021. The Islands’ award-winning hotels and resorts, private villas, restaurants and bars, and tour operators have reopened and are accepting bookings.

Turks and Caicos Islands to Reopen Borders on July 22, 2020

Stringent Protocols will Allow for the Safety and Wellbeing of Locals and Travelers

PROVIDENCIALES, TURKS AND CAICOS (May 29, 2020) – The Honorable Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson, Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, today announced plans to reopen borders and begin welcoming visitors starting on July 22, 2020.

The specifics of new protocols associated with reopening will be shared in the coming weeks and will address stringent standards, trainings, and personal protective equipment, among other necessary measures. The safety and wellbeing of the local population and international guests remains top priority for the Turks and Caicos Islands. As such, the Premier has been vigilant regarding the continued containment of COVID-19 and finalizing new procedures.

“We are eager and excited to reopen our borders and safely welcome travelers back to the picturesque Turks and Caicos Islands later this summer,” said Pamela Ewing, Director of Tourism for the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board. “In the meantime, we are taking every precaution to ensure the Islands are safe and to enhance the exceptional experience and care afforded by the destination and our world-class hospitality partners. Our intention is to cautiously reboot the tourism sector, laying the foundation for short- and long-term recovery.”

The Turks and Caicos Islands – home to the “World’s Best Beach” – is a coveted five-star luxury vacation destination for leisure, business, and notable guests from around the globe. With nine main islands of about 40 small islands and uninhabited cays, the destination is inherently safe for travel in this new paradigm of physical distancing, given its expansiveness, stunning outdoor environment, privacy, spacious resort accommodations and unique portfolio of extraordinary private villas and private island vacations.

Further, the Turks and Caicos Islands’ airline partners have confirmed flight service will resume from within the United States, Canada, and Europe as soon as the destination is ready. Private jet terminals will open on July 22 as well in conjunction with the reopening of Providenciales International Airport. The Grand Turk Cruise Center will remain closed until August 31, 2020 subject to guidance from relevant health authorities.

The Turks and Caicos Island Tourist Board encourages travelers to consider the vacation destination as they plan vacations for late July 2020 onwards. The Islands’ award-winning hotels and resorts, private villas, restaurants and bars, and tour operators are simultaneously finalizing protocols and gearing up to accept bookings for upcoming trips to the destination.

On this Earth Day, we would like to thank those who have contributed to the Turks and Caicos Humpback Whale Catalogue and help further science. Humpback whales are amazing creatures and there is still so much to learn about them. Sadly this season was cut short, but I must say it was a fantastic and exciting season with many new additions to the catalogue and all the matches. We would like to thank the whale watch operators, charters, and dive companies as well as Lee Munson, Jill Mumford, Shelley Jensen, Josh Williams, Katharine Hart, Joanne Buddle, Lee Burghard, Mat Slattery, Philip Covert, Jenna Graham, Dave Heming, and Alex Skye. I hope I didn't miss anyone.
