Watch the huge Pelicans dive for fish only a few feet from the sands edge. 45 restaurants, Blue Haven Marina, IGA supermarket, TCI Ferry Dock, The Couch Farm, Grace Bay Hotel and Shopping area is also minutes away. Nature watch at your vacation home -Watch the fish and Sea Turtles, from the pool deck, or while in the pool. Keep an eye out for Sparkles, the big resident Female. Our granddaughter named her. Almost daily you can see fish, including barracuda, puffers, and sea turtles from the special turtle viewing platform. Flamingo Pond - Only a two minute walk from Maddy's Cottage. Seasonally, these majestic pink birds wade through the pond looking for shrimp. Bring your camera. If your especially lucky, you may see the flamingos fly over the home. If you like Butterflies, Birds, little Lizards, the garden is the place to visit. Of course these are all wild animals. They plan and control there own schedule. Sightings are usually regular, but not guaranteed. Garden Area
My wife and I are avid gardeners. Take stairs down into the garden and be amazed. Over millions of years the leaves of the trees and shrubs have fallen in the jungle and naturally composed, creating a beautiful rich black soil. We have planted many trees and shrubs and flowers. In season, we regularly harvest oranges, papayas, bananas, grapefruit, tangerines, pineapples, cherries, sapodilla fruit, and the usual tomatoes, peppers, etc. If your staying at Maddy's Cottage at the right time, your welcome to pick your own personal use fresh fruit. The Turks and Caicos Islands are one of the few places in the world, where orchids grow naturally in the native jungle. We have kept most of the trees from the jungle, many of them 100's of years old. Follow the paths, and see many beautiful orchids in their natural habitat, including the rare Caicos Orchid that is protected by UN endangered species law. Morning coffee under the huge sapodilla tree is a personal favorite spot on the property. We are a green household, as you may have guessed by now. We used as many natural materials as we could in the construction, including using many native plants (that require less water) in the landscaping. We recycle. We use rain water for our garden. We grow some of our own food. We compost, and use the compost for organic fertilizer. If you wanna help, those plastic pails under the sink, are for kitchen scraps. Interaction with Guests
The owner live on site in the main house, and are available 24 hours a day to assist you. We can answer questions, make recommendations on dining and activities, and address any problems that may arise. We want our guests to have a truly amazing vacation, filled with fond memories, and we are here to assist you with both your vacation planning and on-island needs. Upon confirmed booking, we will send you specific directions from the airport, to Maddy's Cottage to assist you with taxi or rental car to make your arrival as smooth as possible. The Neighborhood
