HELP US SAVE KRABI MOUNTAINS!
Dear Krabi lovers.
Our province is in great danger. A mining company has targeted four districts of Krabi province to exploit its dolomite.
The consequences of such a project , consisting of digging and detonating explosives right into the limestone, would be an ecological and archeological disaster.
First of all, the mountains are a complex network of caves and aquifers connected to the sea. They play a major role in the filtration of sea water turning it into fresh water.
Not only does it regulate the fauna and flora's ecosystem but it is also an essential reserve of fresh water for the surrounding villages.
Cutting through the mountain would create an excessive amount of pollution of all sorts, besides it could potentially damage the fragile balance allowing the water to be filtered, therefore depriving the whole province from crucial sources of water.
Furthermore, these cliffs are composed of hundreds of caves most of which have barely been explored. These caves hold archeological treasures within their walls. Numerous fossils (humans, hyenas, rhino to name a few) have been unearthed by several teams of researchers and archeologists allowing a better understanding of the prehistorical conditions of the area.
In these times, social media is a great way to spread the message and hopefully change the agenda of the mining company whose interest is solely financial.
Help us preserve our beautiful nature by taking a selfie from Thailand or abroad.
By holding a sign stating "SAVE KRABI MOUNTAINS" and writing down your country's name, we hope to bring international attention to this critical issue.
This November 23th at the Provincial Administrative Organization meeting room. 1pm - 4.30pm
Thank you for sharing. The people of Krabi send their love.
