Rob’s Dogs ran a 4 Day spay event on the small island of on Ko Phaluai last weekend.
We had reports of over 100 unsterilized cats on the island potentially endangering the Hornbill population over there.
We decided to go and just sterilize as many animals as possible and undertake a survey of unsterilized animals at the same time.
We Sterilized 124 animals! 110 of which were cats – most from the area that we had the reposts about. We sterilized 14 dogs most of which were male dogs as all the females had been done at an earlier time.
We sterilized all male and female cats that were old enough to be sterilized – we estimate there’s approximately 5 mother cats needing to be done in the next 2 months & then around 20 kittens needing to be done in around 4 months time.

It was a very expensive exercise to get our teams out to Koh Phaluai so we can not justify going back for this handful of cats, so we have talked with the lady who runs the bungalows we stayed at and she will box up the cats and put on the ferry over to us, we have left her 2 flight standard cat boxes and we will cover shipping costs to and from Samui for them.

This will then mean that there should be NO un-sterilized cats on this island.

Our work is expanding both on Samui and the mainland – we operate on a very tight budget and we rely on donations of time, money and supplies. We worked really hard to make this amazing event happen.

We would like to thank:
Our Samui team and Dr Pear & Dr Suki for all their hard work including a few late nights. .
Crab bank Ao One for hosting us the day we were working on the cats from the “cat house”.
Koh Phaluai Beach Bungalow เกาะพะลวยบีช บังกะโล who not only hosted us as a workspace but also provided food and accommodation for all of our staff and volunteers.

มูลนิธินิเวศวิถี EcoThailand Foundation who always support us in our projects, and gave us a grant to help cover transport costs and did most of the communication with the local community for this project.

Kun Anne & Kun Kiyra who talked with the village head man to get us permission to go.

Kun Joy at RajaFerryPort for helping us with our complex travel requests and made sure we were all booked on the right ferry’s.

Emily Ritchie for the generous donation to cover most of the costs associated with running this event.

Dr Somsak on Samui for a donation of rabies meaning we could vaccinate every single animal we sterilized.

LUSH Australia for their grant to buy the black car which we used every sing day we were on Ko Phaluai.

Happy Doggo for covering the cost of Dogs.

All our Donors & Volunteers – everyone worked so hard to make this event the HUGE success that it was.

We want to be able to run these off Samui sterilization events at least once a month– please consider becoming a monthly donor to help us expand our work.
