🌌 Exciting News for Astronomy Enthusiasts! 🌌

We're thrilled to announce a groundbreaking collaboration between NARIT and the Samui Association to advance astronomical tourism! Together, we're aiming to elevate "Koh Samui" as a dark sky conservation area in Thailand, adding to the 30 locations already designated.

Dr. Saran Posayachinda, Director of NARIT, and Mr. Witthaya Thongsuk, President of the Samui Association, have signed a memorandum of understanding to foster astrotourism and advocate for Koh Samui's recognition as a Dark Sky Island.

Since 2020, NARIT has spearheaded the Dark Sky in Thailand project, raising awareness about light pollution's impact and promoting responsible lighting practices. The initiative categorizes dark sky conservation zones into parks, communities, personal zones, and suburban areas, ensuring optimal stargazing conditions and minimal light disturbance.

Currently, there are 30 designated dark sky conservation areas across Thailand, igniting the trend of astronomical tourism. These locations serve as picturesque backdrops for amateur astronomers and offer unique experiences for travelers, both local and international.

Through this collaboration, NARIT and the Samui Association are committed to enhancing astronomy knowledge among tourism operators, fostering sustainable astrotourism aligned with government initiatives to boost domestic tourism.
