📌Thai Spirit House (Not Buddhist Shrine or Temple)

✏️ A Spirit House is a shrine to the protective spirit of a place found in Southeast Asian countries including Thailand. Spirit houses are usually seen at all properties such as houses, business centers, schools, government places, lands, and farms almost everywhere in Thailand. We believe spirits are living to protect us.

✏️ The spirit house is normally in the form of a small roofed structure and is mounted on a pillar or a dais. The different sizes or colors depend on the b budget of the owner.

✏️ The most common offering in Thailand is to leave offerings of food and drink at the spirit house. Foods, fruits, drinks, and flowers are common offerings.

✏️ Fun fact! Instead of blood sacrifice in the ancient time. Thais use red color drinks as an offering instead. That why when you always see red bottles of strawberry-flavored Fanta as offering at most spirit houses here

📌Chao Phraya River - Bangkok Thailand

✏️Chao Phraya River means ‘The King of the River’ The Chao Phraya watershed is the largest in Thailand, covering approximately 35 percent of the nation’s land. Stretching approximately 372 kilometers (231 miles) In Bangkok, the Chao Phraya River is a major transportation artery for a network of river buses, cross-river ferries, and water taxisใ More than 15 boat lines operate on the rivers and canals of the city, including commuter lines. Winds its way through the heart of the city, dividing it into two halves and serving as a vital artery for transportation, commerce, and culture.

✏️In Bangkok, the Chao Phraya is a constant presence, shaping the city’s identity and providing a scenic backdrop to daily life. Its waters are a hive of activity, with long-tail boats, river taxis, and cargo ships navigating its currents. Along its banks, you’ll find a mix of modern skyscrapers, historic temples, and traditional wooden houses, offering a glimpse into Thailand’s rich cultural tapestry.

✏️One of the most iconic sights along the Chao Phraya is the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), which sits on the river’s eastern bank. This majestic complex, with its ornate architecture and glittering spires, is a testament to Thailand’s royal heritage and spiritual traditions.

✏️The Chao Phraya River is much more than just a waterway, it’s a symbol of Bangkok’s vitality, resilience, and timeless allure. Navigating its storied waters is a journey through history, tradition, and the vibrant spirit of Thailand’s capital city.

📌 Water Festival ‘Song Kran’ Thai New Year - Thank you for Photos .ig 🙏

📌 Thailand’s most famous and vibrant festival. Celebrated annually from April 13th - 15th, Songkran marks the traditional Thai New Year, a time for family reunions, temple visits, and merit-making activities. While it has deep religious and cultural roots, it’s also widely known for its exuberant water fights across the country.

📌 Origins and Traditions - Songkran has its origins in ancient Brahmanic rituals where people would sprinkle water on each other to cleanse away the past year’s misfortunes and welcome the New Year with a fresh start. Over time, this tradition evolved into the more playful water fights that we see today. One of the most important customs during Songkran is the ‘Rod Nam Dum Hua’ ceremony, where younger people pay respect to their elders by pouring scented water over their hands. This act is believed to bring blessings and good fortune for the New Year. People also visit temples to make merit, offer food to monks, and release captive animals as acts of kindness and compassion.

📌 Water Fights - The water fights are undoubtedly the highlight of Songkran celebrations. Iconic streets like Silom Road, Khao San Road, and Ratchaprasong Intersection, Siam, Streets across Thailand transform into bustling water battlefields where locals and tourists alike armed with water guns, hoses, and buckets drench each other with water. It’s a joyous and spirited occasion where everyone, regardless of age or background, comes together to celebrate.

🎥 Sala Rattanakosin

✏️ Wat Arun Temple usually lit up every nights. The best time to get a beautiful sunset light at 5.30pm - 7pm

✏️ Wat Arun Temple │ The Landmark of Bangkok - 67 meters │ 220 feet tall of ‘Prang’ (Hindu Architecture Represent Sacred Mount Meru in Hinduism) This place is used to be the third kingdom of Thailand during 1767-1782.

✏️ For the ‘Prang’ decoration a layer of plaster was applied and then decorated with porcelain and glazed ceramic tiles. The story is that back started in 1832, with many Chinese ships moored at the port of Bangkok and dumped loads of excess porcelain into the river because of the broken piece during the shopping from the ship from China to Thailand at that time. This porcelain was recycled and used to decorate many temples including Wat Arun.

✏️ The central Prang represents Mount Meru, home of the Hindu gods. The four smaller prangs symbolize the four winds. High up on the four smaller towers, you can see a statue of Pai, god of the winds, on his horse.

📌Thai Novice Buddhist Monks
📍Wat Pho temple, Bangkok Thailand 🇹🇭

✏️ Novices are referred to young Thai Buddhist monks aged between 7 and 20. If you travel to Thailand during the summer, you may notice that there are many novice monks everywhere in Thailand. (Thailand summer is in between mid-March - mid-May, hence school holidays for all students for 2 months.)

🔹Most young Thai men and boys have become novice ordained as a monk for a temporary period of 2 weeks to 1 month to make merit to parents and family. With 227 rules, also required to live at the temple during that monk period. The daily routine of Thai monks has included wearing saffron robes and having shaved or closely cropped hair. During their early morning rounds, monks are given beautifully-packaged offerings of rice and vegetables by Thais who bow gently as they present them. Monks will give service every day in the evening usually for 1 hour including chanting and meditation. You don’t have to be Buddhist, everyone is welcome to join the service. Please wear the appropriate outfit to visit our temples🙏

✏️ There are approximately 200,000 Buddhist monks in Thailand. Become monks have required 227 rules. There is a rule that monks are not allowed to spend money so all monks’ foods, supplies, etc are supported by local Buddhist Thais.

📌 Wat Pho ‘Temple of the Reclining Buddha’

Wat Pho is one of Bangkok’s oldest temples. It existed before Bangkok was established as the capital by King Rama I.

This 22-acre old temple is thought to have been built or expanded during the reign of King Phetracha in the Ayutthaya period (1688–1703)

Later in 1788, King Rama I ordered the construction and renovation of the old temple site of Wat Pho temple. Most of the structures now present were rebuilt during this period, including the Chapel of the Reclining Buddha in 1832, King Rama III began renovating and enlarging the temple complex, a process that took 16 years and seven months to complete.

Wat Pho temple is regarded as Thailand’s first university and a center for traditional Thai massage. It served as a medical teaching center in the mid-19th century before the advent of modern medicine, and the temple remains a center for traditional medicine today where a private school for Thai medicine founded in 1957 still operates.

📌 Big Buddha Image along the Bangkok Canal Tour ‘Klong’

🔸 69 meters (226 feet) tall Buddha Image at Wat Pak Nam temple. Built from 2017 to 2020.

✏️ The contrast of Bangkok in a beautiful way. Truly see the real living of Bangkok with many beautiful Thai temples along the canal. A refreshing breeze. Great for sitting down rest your feet for an hour break during the hot tour day in Bangkok.

✏️ On the long tail speed boat inside the ‘Bangkoknoi’, ‘Klong Mon’ or/and ‘Bangkokyai’ canal, you will see the backyards of locals and houses on stilts over the water with many beautiful temples along the way, lots of birds, water monitor lizards, Thai people fishing, very surprisingly HUGE seated buddha image on the canal, Thai Style teakwood houses and way of living of people living in Bangkok.

✏️ The Canals are filled to the brim with giant catfish near the temple because Thais don’t fish the waters near the sacred temple areas. You can get fresh bread at the piers to feed all catfish.

✏️ If you could have time for an hour, I would recommend this fun experience boat ride at the canals in Bangkok.

📌 Wat Arun Temple │ The Landmark of Bangkok - 67 meters │ 220 feet tall of ‘Prang’ (Hindu Architecture Represent Sacred Mount Meru in Hinduism) This place is used to be the third kingdom of Thailand during 1767-1782.

✏️ The central Prang towet represents Mount Meru, home of the Hindu gods. The four smaller prangs symbolize the four winds. High up on the four smaller towers, you can see a statue of Pai, god of the winds, on his horse.

Thank you very much Vekeman Family 🇧🇪 🙏

📌 Bangkok Canal Tour ‘Klong’
