This festive season, embrace the spirit of giving by visiting the Friends Visitor Centre in Luang Prabang, Laos. Nestled in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage city, the centre offers a variety of handmade Lao crafts, with all proceeds directly supporting the Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC), a medical facility which provides life-saving treatments to over 40,000 children each year.

Asian Trails recently recognised a quarter-century of operations in Myanmar with three days of sustainability-themed activities. Catering was provided by the Myanmar Deaf Chef Association, a non-profit that helps young deaf individuals secure employment in the hospitality sector. The initiative was founded by a former Asian Trails’ staff member.

A highlight of the three-days was dinner at a scenic rooftop venue, where CEO Laurent Kuenzle congratulated the company’s longest-serving staff members – many of whom have been with Asian Trails for over 20 years.

As part of our commitment to supporting local communities, Asian Trails’ team in Malaysia rolled up their sleeves to help clean up a community garden in Kampung Baru, an old residential district of Kuala Lumpur.

During the event, arranged in partnership with Kebun Komuniti, our colleagues focused on tidying up the aubergine section of the garden and planted new mustard greens, a fast-growing, nutritious leaf that is found in many delicious Malaysian dishes.

A community-based tourism project in Southern Thailand – visited on an Asian Trails’ tour – was presented with a prestigious responsible tourism award. A visit to this community on the beautiful north-east coast of Phuket reveals a different side to the resort island – away from the popular beaches and nightlife.
