Why don't airplane engines have wire mesh to stop bird strikes?🕊️

Bird strikes pose a significant threat to aircraft. While the idea of shielding engines with wire mesh seems intuitive, it's not a practical solution.

✈️Airflow Disruption: Jet engines require a constant, unobstructed flow of air for optimal performance. Even fine mesh can disrupt this airflow, leading to reduced efficiency, increased fuel consumption, and potential aerodynamic instability, especially at high speeds.
✈️Engine Resilience: Modern jet engines are designed with resilience in mind.
- Fan blades are made from strong materials like titanium alloys to withstand bird impacts.
- Rigorous certification tests simulate bird strikes to ensure engine safety.
✈️Practical Limitations of Mesh:
- Weight: Adding mesh and its supporting structure would significantly increase aircraft weight, negatively impacting fuel efficiency.
- Drag: The mesh would create drag, slowing the aircraft down and further reducing fuel efficiency.
- Maintenance: Regular cleaning and repairs of the mesh would be costly and time-consuming.

Agreement Covers Expansion of Stevens Water Monitoring System for Innovation and Dyacon Whether Instrument Solution to Thai Aerospace Industries (TAI)

Thai Aerospace Industrie and, Stevens Water Monitoring System Inc, a leader in global environmental data acquisition technologies and software platforms and fire weather, and emerging whether station improves for small airport opportunities, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to broaden their collaboration on existing products in advancing aviation technologies. Stevens will provide support ensuring Dyacon’s technologies will continue to experience the service and care they deserve.

The MoU was signed by CEO of Thai Aerospace Industries, Chris Atswalongkorn Ph.D, and Regional BD Manager APAC, Jeff Chan from both partners were present on the occasion. As a first step under the agreement, Stevens will expand its Center for Innovation and Monitoring System Solutions to TAI, creating a platform for long-term innovation, training, and technological leadership, thereby strengthening TAI’s position as a global leader in aviation capabilities.

This strategic partnership with Stevens Water Monitoring System reinforces Thai Aerospace Industries’s commitment to advancing Whether Instrument and aligns with the TAI’s vision of strengthening human capital development through education, innovation, and technological excellence.
