Thailand comes second after Australia among the countries with the highest COVID-19 recovery index, and it is ranked first in Asia, according to a report issued by the Global COVID-19 Index (GCI) on 11 June 2020.

The GCI has been developed by PEMANDU Associates in collaboration with Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Sunway Group. It is driven strongly by big data, and the index scores and ranks 184 countries on how well they are coping with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the ranking of countries by recovery index, Australia receives 86.34 from 100 points. Thailand receives 83.29, followed by Denmark, 81.75; Taiwan, 79.55; South Korea, 79.25; New Zealand, 79.08; Lithuania, 77.06; Slovenia, 76.12; Iceland, 76.06; and Latvia, 75.46.

Among the 20 countries with the highest recovery index, five are in Asia. They include Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

Key dynamic parameters used by the GCI include confirmed cases per population, the proportionate death rate due to COVID-19, and static scores derived from the Global Health Security Index, which was developed to assess a country’s readiness to cope with and handle any epidemic.

All Thai people have their discipline, strength, and patience in fighting COVID-19, so that everyone could get through the difficult situation together. In so doing, Thailand has been recognized as the country with the second-best COVID-19 recovery index in the world.

Thai government plans to create so-called “travel bubbles” through bilateral agreements designed to keep the novel coronavirus in check when Thailand’s borders are reopened.

It means once the situation improves, we’ll allow travel between countries that we have an agreement with. There won’t be free movement because we don’t want another outbreak that could hurt both the origin and the destination.

PATTAYA: Pattaya, Jomtien and Koh Lan will reopen their beaches from Monday 01/06/2020, as Chon Buri eases its lockdown in line with the decline in local coronavirus infections in Thailand. Chon Buri has reported NO new Covid-19 cases since May 23, and only 15 since the start of the month.

However, accommodation providers on Koh Lan island will not be allowed to open yet. Although the beachgoers will be able to rent lounge chairs and umbrellas but the operators must enforce distancing measures by keeping them at least one metre apart. The beaches will be closed from Tuesday to Thursday in the second or third weeks of the month for clean-up, too.

8 Preventive Action For Coronavirus in leading department stores in Thailand.

Siam Paragon take strongest precautionary measures against 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak, to ensure customers’ confidence

Owing to the concern over an outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus, also known as 2019-nCoV, ICONSIAM, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery would like our customers to feel confident about our precautionary measures. Indeed, all the shopping centers do prioritize the safety of customers and employees. We have taken all basic precautionary measures and there have been no suspected cases reported.

However, to reassure customer of our establishments, we announce strongest measures possible to monitor and prevent the virus outbreak including thermal screening at checkpoints and a set of eight measures as follows:

1. To install checkpoints for symptoms of the coronavirus with a thermal scanner at the main entrance and exit gates of the shopping buildings: 5 points at ICONSIAM, 5 points at Siam Paragon, 2 points at Siam Center and 3 points at Siam Discovery—to reduce the risk of spreading the infection early. The thermal scanners meet standards with their counterparts at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The device will detect the human body temperature, safe to users, and can measure the body temperature from a distance. This allows customers not to feel disturbed even though there will be many visitors walking into the building at the same time. The device can provide accurate reports, however.

2. To increase air conditioning maintenance more strictly: additional disinfection system and higher frequency of air conditioner cleaning are provided.

3. To provide hand sanitizer gel service totaling more than 300 points throughout all the shopping buildings, especially at crowded areas. Disinfectant service is also available in the restrooms apart from foaming hand wash normally provided.

4. To add the number of staff and frequency of cleaning surfaces in public places such as lift push buttons, escalator handrails, restroom handles and every single door handle.

5. To have lift staff who will clean and push a lift button for customers, to name but a few.

6. To provide an emergency service point dedicated to offering help and convenience to any suspected case at the checkpoint. The building staff will contact those involved and allow customers’ convenience to have a checkup in the hospital and report to Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, in accordance with the Ministry’s procedures.

7. To raise awareness and give the employees a training session about the coronavirus outbreak and how to react.

8. To actively encourage all the employees who give service directly to customers to wear a face mask on duty. To install informative signs in the shopping centers to give advice on how to do when having a fever or symptoms.

As a result of these more stringent precautionary measures that include every aspect, ICONSIAM, Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery are totally confident that all customers will visit and enjoy experiences safely and confidently at each of the shopping centers.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has uploaded three special publications to commemorate the 60th anniversary of its founding this year. They provide a fascinating look at the history of Thai tourism and TAT since 1960.

The first book, under the theme of “60 Years of Pride – The Journey of Thailand’s Sustainable Tourism” includes a number of historic images of the TAT offices, Thailand and Bangkok in the 1960s. The highlight is a montage of the visit by King Bhumibhol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX) to the TAT offices and the full text of his address to the audience.

The bilingual Thai-English book also pays tribute to the TAT’s former Governors, highlights the many marketing campaigns; such as, the Visit Thailand Year, Amazing Thailand, Thailand: Happiness on Earth, Thailand Grand Invitation, Unseen Thailand, and Open to the New Shades, and cites the awards and accolades TAT has won over the years.

The second book “TAT the Journey” (in Thai only) offers a more detailed look at the TAT’s policy and planning perspectives, including statistical records, crisis management challenges, research projects and responses to changes in a global operating environment.

The third book, “Open to Panoramic Thailand” is full of spectacular images of Thailand, from forests and farms to temples, beaches and urban areas.
