I just realized that in the end, we only got to see the female elephants, while the male ones are kept in captivity for life under the pretense that they are aggressive, in heat, and untrainable. If this flood lasts another 2-3 days, we might see 10 more male elephants stranded in their enclosures, struggling to survive with no way out, and inevitably facing death in those cages. Imagine yourself holding on to the bars, submerged underwater for 2-3 days—how unbearable would that be? Is this what people who claim to love elephants do? Is this what they mean by 'free-range' care?
