Kerchor Eco Elepantpark
Ker-Chor Elephant Eco Park (Ker-Chor) was founded to improve the livelihood and the quality of life of elephants and elephant owners. We are promoting ecotourism, which is beneficial to elephants and the nature, and we encourage cultural exchange in the community and forest restoration to conserve elephant’s natural habitat and sources of diet. Here, the Karen people’s lives and their roles in elephant care are presented. Elephants have long been part of their lives. Most of Karen people work as farmers and earn relatively small income. Their elephants undergo labor work such as pulling logs and other heavy labor jobs. Some are sold their elephant to capitalists. Some have their ivory removed or have been exploited. Ker-Chor is a small elephant sanctuary built on our wish to provide better and sustainable lives for the elephants and their owners alike, and to share with the world tradition of natural elephant care, with which the elephants are never tied and are free to roam around. In addition, the owners get to spend more time with their elephants and families.
