By Private Car or Taxi:

Driving: Rent a car or hire a taxi for the 220-kilometer drive along Highway 323. The trip takes around 4 to 5 hours and allows you to stop at various points of interest along the way.

Flexibility: This option provides the flexibility to explore other attractions near Sangkhlaburi, such as Thong Pha Phum National Park.

By Van:

Shared Vans: Available at the Kanchanaburi Bus Terminal, these vans are a faster alternative to buses, taking around 4 hours to reach Sangkhlaburi. The cost is similar to that of the bus.

🔥 Hellfire Pass: A Testament to History 🔥

Located in Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi, Hellfire Pass (Khao Khat Pass) is a significant part of the Thai-Burma Railway, also known as the Death Railway. This pass, the largest excavation point along the route, was manually carved through solid rock by prisoners of war and laborers under brutal conditions during World War II. Working up to 18-hour shifts in unbearable heat, they endured extreme hardships with little food, water, and medical care. The flickering torchlights at night cast haunting shadows, giving this place its ominous name, "Hellfire Pass."

You can totally plan a trip to Kanchanaburi on your own! you can explore iconic sites, soak in nature, and even visit an elephant sanctuary 🌄🐘 —all in one day! Here's an itinerary we came up with for you to check out!

Depart from Bangkok by Train, Explore Kanchanaburi by Motorbike, and Return by Bus

Bangkok departure: Catch the morning train from Thonburi Station in Bangkok at 7:50 AM. This scenic train ride takes approximately 2.5 hours. Enjoy the journey through the countryside and over the famous River Kwai Bridge.

From Bangkok, you can easily travel to Thonburi Railway Station by yourself as follows:

🚕 Taxi: This is the most direct way. Depending on traffic. (Be aware that taxi drivers might not always use the meter, especially for early morning trips).

Kanchanaburi arrival: When you arrive in Kanchanaburi, get off the train at the River Kwai Bridge station, start your visit at the famous River Kwae Bridge, which is right at the station. Explore the area, walk across the bridge, and learn about its historical significance.

After you have arranged your car rental, we recommend you spend the afternoon at the elephant camp. This elephant camp drive 50 kilometers away from the city, and offers a chance to get up close and personal with these gentle creatures.

After finishing the activity with the elephants, it is time to travel back into the city and return the motorcycle. After that, you can take a motorbike taxi to the bus station to catch a bus back to Bangkok.

Traveling by bus from Kanchanaburi back to Bangkok takes approximately 2-3 hours depending on traffic. The bus ends at the Southern Bus Terminal.
