@ Koh Phangan will start meeting groups every villages at Wat Rad Chareon, Thong Sala at 03.00 p.m. to 05.00 p.m. on November 5,2023 will have parade of people to join together. นัดกันเลยจ้ะ ณ วัดราษฎร์เจริญ เกาะพะงัน เวลา บ่ายสาม จนถึง ห้าโมงเย็น วันที่ 5 พ.ย. 2566 ฝากบอกต่อๆ ชวนฝรั่งมาร่วมกันทำบุญ ร่วมกิจกรรมของชาวเราคนเกาะพะงัน สืบสานวัฒนธรรม ไม่ให้ลืมเลือนกันไปนะคะ

The Sea Procession Ceremony is an important and unique tradition of the people of Ko Pha Ngan district. It is held after the end of Buddhist Lent, on the 7th night of the 11th month. The belief stems from the Buddhist history, when the local community welcomed Lord Buddha as he returned from granting blessings to his mother in heaven.

Ko Pha Ngan district is a sea-surrounded island in the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 25 kilometers away from the mainland. Due to its remote location, the local residents of Ko Pha Ngan cannot easily join events in other places. The Sea Procession Ceremony, held on the 8th night of the 11th month, relies on significant factors such as wind and water, as it involves a sea procession.

This tradition has been celebrated for more than a hundred years. It requires the collective efforts of the entire community. Every household in Ko Pha Ngan becomes a temporary monastery for three days. The sea is filled with boats, including the sacred boat called "Phra" that connects to a single rope, and people row it while singing special chants. The event includes morning merit-making, boat processions, rowing competitions, and ends with Dhamma talks over the course of three days.
