BBC News - Thailand reopens to vaccinated tourists from over 60 nations

Authorities hope reopening will generate $30bn for the tourism sector despite ongoing restrictions.

"Following the current widespread of Covid-19 and the recent Thai Government’s travel restriction policy, Bangkok Airways regret to announce for the flight suspension on all flight services from/to Bangkok, effective on 21 July - 03 August 2021"

BA are still running the daily direct flight from Phuket as well as the special 'safe' flights for International tourists to Samui.

No immediate changes for ferry passengers.

The number of Covid infections and related deaths continues to climb in the country and the current vaccination program and quarantine rules are failing to control things.

All domestic flights across the country between the worst affected areas (known as dark red zones) have been suspended. Bangkok is one such area.

Days 1 to 3: Travellers must say at their hotels, but they can leave their rooms and use the facilities and services at the accommodation.

Days 4 to 7: Travellers can go to specified destinations on Koh Samui.

Days 8 to 14: Travellers can go to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

Those eligible to travel to the islands under the proposed plan are those who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 with a brand approved by the World Health Organisation or registered for use in Thailand.

Only those travelling from countries that are classified by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health as a low to medium risk of Covid-19 will be allowed to travel to the islands under the scheme. Travellers must have stayed in that country for at least 21 days before entering Thailand. The ministry regularly updates the list of countries by their risk of Covid-19. Under the proposed Samui Plus travel scheme, before arriving on the islands, travellers must…

Have a vaccine certificate verifying the last injection was administered at least 14 days before travelling.
Obtain a medicate certificate with a negative result from a Covid-19 RT-PCR test issued no more than 72 hours before departure.
Have Covid-19 health insurance policy with a minimum coverage of US$100,000. To apply for Covid-19 insurance under the Thailand Re-Entry package offered on The Thaiger, click HERE.
Apply for a Certificate of Entry, or COE. Go to www.entrythailand.go.th to register and for more steps on entering Thailand.
Book a stay at a certified alternative local quarantine, or ALQ, hotel or resort.

The proposed reopening date for the “Samui Plus” travel scheme is now July 15. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, islands in the Gulf of Thailand off the Surat Thani coast, are planned to reopen to travellers from overseas who are vaccinated against Covid-19.

Initially called the “Samui Sealed Route,” the proposed travel scheme will allow those who are vaccinated to enter Koh Samui without going through a 14-day quarantine. Instead, after 3 days a hotel or resort on the island, travellers will be able to go to specified destinations, most likely with a tour guide. After a week, travellers will be allowed to travel to the neighbouring islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. And after 14 days, travellers can travel throughout Thailand.

Koh Samui opens for international tourists from 15th July 2021..

On june 22nd, the Thai Cabinet approved the principle of opening a pilot area for tourists of the Surathani Province ( Koh Samui, Koh Pagnan and Koh Tao. Tourists who fly directly to Koh Samui have now the option to enjoy a sealed route quarantine process so that they can enter and enjoy the beautiful islands in a safe and responsible way.

Once the quarantine process has been completed, the tourists are free to travel in the entire country without any further restrictions.

The procedure of the Sealed route are explained in the flyer of Samui + Model.

Mr. Ratchaporn Poolsawadee, the President of the Tourism Association further confirms that from July 15th flights from singapore will already start their route to Koh Samui. “We are excited to welcome international tourists on our beautiful islands and will make sure they can enjoy a full tropical experience even during their quarantine..” the president explained.

If your guests or prospects ask you "Is Samui in a red zone?" The answer is no.

It is not a red zone as identified by the government in Bangkok. Those 18 red zones are provinces of concern.

Suratthani is not one of them.

You may have heard a rumour that there was a Covid case at Sunset Cove recently.

This is fake news but it is on the internet and so everyone believes it.

The case was at Sunset Estates. Unfortunately, the local t***s published the case as in a villa described as Samui Sunset Luxury Villas. A description used on 100's of websites for 100's of villas. Sunset Cove is famous. Sunset Estates is not. (It is between The Ritz Carlton and Tongsai Bay. Close to Soi 4.)

A girl from Suratthani was there from 2 - 4 Jan. Her family in Suratthani were found have tested positive. The track and trace people found her at Sunset Estates villa 16 (Sunset Cove does not have a villa 16)

They took everyone on the estate for testing - all negative except the girl. Cleaners, pool guys etc all now in quarantine. Further tests ongoing.

Local Tessabaan disinfected all of the area including all villlas.

The girl was transferred to the mainland as soon as she was found positive.
