Pangolin capture and release
Today l got a call from my son telling me a local had caught a pangolin in a rubber garden close by, the rubber tapper wanted 1000Bht/Kg and this beautiful creature which weighed 3.8Kg
It’s always difficult in these situations to know what the right thing to do is - perpetuate the trade and buy the animal for release or turn a blind eye and leave it to a horrible fate. I couldn’t afford to spend 3800bht on the animal but through negotiation and appealing for its safety l bought it for 2500 Bht which was my limit.
Nim kept it a dark cage throughout the day and Jonathan came over late afternoon for the release just before dusk at a secluded mountain area not too far from where it was captured.
As you can see it made its escape looking no worse for its experience.
Thanks Nim and Johnathon for taking care of this beautiful little pangolin (in my absence)and giving it a chance to live and avoid being transported to China / Malaysia for a miserable fate
By the way if this kind of thing happens again ( it’s very infrequent thankfully)
Is there anyone who would like to help with, buying the animals freedom - put your hand up - l felt very bad about setting a limit on this little fella but it ended well
