MAYA BAY CLOSED AGAIN 🚫

After the closure of Maya Bay in 2018 to recover from mass tourism, it opened again on 1st of January 2022 with a few conditions.

One of them was to limit the capacity of tourists entering Maya Bay and also prevent boats to go into the bay. Boats would need to dock at the backside of Maya Bay–Loh Samah Bay.

The other condition was a yearly closure of 2 months to check the impact of the reopening on nature and wildlife. This closure starts today, 1st of August 2022 and tourists can enter Maya Bay on 1st of October 2022 again.

Always wanted to know the history of longtail boats? Check out this post from Discover Phi Phi 👇🏼⛵

Challenge: Try to find a postcard in Phi Phi that does not include a longtail boat. Hard right? Longtail boats are a true icon in whole Thailand, especially at islands like Koh Phi Phi. 🌴

Local people in Central Thailand created the longtail boat around 1937 (2480) as a cheap way to transport goods and for fishing. The idea is to take a diesel engine of a tractor or truck, attach that to the pole and boat body in order to steer the longtail.

The bowsprit is decorated with colorful silks and flowers to pay respect to Buddha. You should not touch that part of the boat.

Every captain chooses the color to paint his own boat to praise Mae Ya Nang, the spiritual goddess of boats. 'The Grandmother of Boats' provides safety and security for the captain and its passengers.

It is hard to imagine Phi Phi without longtail boats. But with the whole world turning away from diesel engines, we might see a different type of engine in the next decades. Will we ever see a longtail powered by batteries? 😏

One thing is for sure, you did not really visit Thailand if you did not ride a longtail!

Fine dining experiences in Phi Phi are not so easy to find. Atom Resto solved this problem here, as you can eat delicious Italian and Thai food in a fancy setting. It is beautifully decorated and very important, the big restaurant has air conditioning so you can eat without sweat.

You will think that you are in Italy once you get a taste of the typical Italian pizzas and pastas, which go great with their imported wines. Not in the mood for wine? Just drink one of their unique cocktails.

The prices of Atom Resto are really affordable, especially since the quality of the food and the service of the lovely staff is so high. Come and see for yourself!
