Above and beyond. ;) Guests forgot a phone on the steps at the front door. But we saw it in time and were able to get it back to them at the airport before their flight departed. 💖🙏😅😇

This is a real photo, not a double exposure or Photoshop trickery. What you see is a nighttime view of Chiang Mai, taken from Doi Suthep mountain that overlooks the town.

On top of the mountain is a temple, with gold coloured pagoda that is illuminated by big floodlights at night so it's readily visible from anywhere in town.

In some weather conditions, specifically low hanging cloud cover, the outline of the pagoda gets 'projected' on to the clouds, creating this otherworldly image.

This large and modern townhome has three floors and a nice view of Doi Suthep mountain from the main top floor bedroom. There is a large living room, dining area and kitchen downstairs, then upstairs is a big bedroom, bathroom / makeup area and children's play area, adn the top floor has two bedrooms both with ensuite bathrooms. It is located 300 meters from the Saturday Walking Street market, which leads up to the Old City Moat. The house is in a small residential area so it's very quiet, yet it's right downtown!

Notice on smoking.. In Thailand it's legal to smoke both to***co and cannabis, as long as the smoke doesn't bother others. At my properties you can smoke anything in *outside areas*, just not inside. :)

Cannabis currently has the same legal status in Thailand as cabbage: you can fill a suitcase with cannabis and fly anywhere in Thailand, and you can grow and dry it in any quantity.

So no need to smoke inside; enjoy the scenery and smoke outside.

Do note that officially *va**ng* is not allowed, and occasionally people get in trouble when caught with the equipment. At the same time it's widely and openly sold in Thailand.. But again: outside areas only please. 🥳

This cosy little townhome is fully renovated and located 300 meters from the Old City moat at Chiang Mai Gate and the Saturday Walking Street Market. This is my first rental home and in many ways still my favorite. It's bright, spacious and in a really good area in the riverside area close to many restaurants and markets. First time finally visiting the improved Mae Kha canal area, early morning before people showed up. I have to say it looks a bit nicer than I thought. What used to be basically a slum area is now borderline 'Wabi-Sabi Chic', while still authentic and 'real'. Very good for the people who live there.

Chiang Mai does cute little markets SO well.. This one is mostly about coffee culture, with a lot of local producers and artisans showing their craft. ☕🧇🍰💝

Eight lovely people from the Czech Republic; their train had a 2 hour delay, nothing yet planned for the day and only two days in town. So was happy to get them to a great elephant sanctuary about an hour after checking them in.

Finally, Superhost again. 💖🌹

During Covid times when people couldn't really travel we did not have enough stays to qualify. But now that tourism is coming back, we got it back right away! (You get Superhost status when you have mostly 5 star reviews from guests.)

It also feels like getting back to normal; long ago we started on AirBnB; we now get bookings from several more channels, but AirBnB still feels special; it's much more of a 'travel community' than the regular hotel booking engines.

Or booking right here on Facebook is good, too. 🥰

This is the Treasury Museum in the Old City, on the road that has the Sunday market. The museum is well worth a visit, presenting the history of trade and commerce from the early days of the Lanna Kingdom onwards. The building itself is a fantastic example of Tropical Mid-Century Modern architecture, It dates to 1951 when it was built as the residence of Princess Thippawan of Lampang.

There are nice interactive displays too and the staff is really good, taking you around the museum. It's also free of charge and has excellent air conditioning, so definitely worth a stop for people walking around seeing temples in the old city on a hot day. :)

The government tourism authority (TAT) started issuing signs for holiday rental homes. Registration for short-term rentals has been possible for decades, but TAT now actively recognizes and supports hosting via sites like Airbnb.

My Story

I was born and raised in Chiang Mai in the Sanpatong area. I studied at Yupparat College and then Chiang Mai University, and then worked for several technology companies as a programmer and then project manager. But this wasn’t me. My mom had a small townhouse in the riverside area of Chiang Mai, near the main markets. It was used mostly for storage of supplies and product she farmed and then distributed to the markets. As she got older it wasn’t really used anymore so I decided to completely renovate the place and then rent it, as it was in a very good area for both tourism or longer stays. We took out all the old tile floors, added a nice kitchen and bathroom, and fully furnished the place. This was around 2013 and AirBnB was just growing in Thailand. So instead of renting out long term I tried short term holiday rentals. And it was great!

I met so many lovely people and it makes me so proud to let people enjoy Chiang Mai. From the very beginning I went to pick up guests at the airport and train station when they arrived; guests really appreciate that when arriving in a new place for the first time. I then drove a slightly longer route through town to show a bit of the city, point out great restaurants, cafes and markets on the way, and then make sure guests are comfortable, and answer any questions.

With AirBnB and similar holiday rental sites it’s very important to follow all the rules, and register with the local government to do everything legally. Fortunately this is easy in Thailand, which for decades has had a regulation that allows people to open up a house or part of a house to rent out by the day. This resulted in a ‘guesthouse boom’ in the 1980’s, and the same regulations match AirBnB very well.

I then recommended a friend to also do holiday rentals as she had a lovely traditional wooden house in the city. She didn’t really want to do it so I ended up renting the place from her and adding it as another listing. I then found a very small townhouse near Chiang Mai Gate and the Old City Moat for sale, was able to get a mortgage and I suddenly I realized I had a new job!
