"บางตะบูน" เป็นอีกเมื่องหนึ่งที่เราชื่นชอบมานานมากมาย แต่เราก็ยังไม่เคยสอบเฒ่าผู้แก่อย่างจริงจังถึงที่มาของชื่อบางตะบูน เพียงแค่นึกถึง "ภาพความงดงามก็ลอยขึ้นมาทันทีทันใด"

สายน้ำที่กว้างใหญ่และยาวเหยียด ไหลไปบรรจบกับอ่าวไทย ทุกครั้งที่นั่งเรือเที่ยว สองข้างแม่น้ำที่ตระการตายังคงมีบ้านเก่าสวยๆและเรือหาปลาลำใหญ่ ชาวบ้านบางคนที่นี่ ยังคงสัณจรทางน้ำกันอยู่ ฝูกนกนางนวล เหยี่ยวเเดงที่กำลังบินโฉบหาปลา และฝูงนกกาน้ำที่บินผ่านไปมาบนท้องฟ้า มันบ่งบอกถึงความอุดมสมบูรณ์ที่ยังคงหลงเหลือ

ภาพพระอาทิตย์ที่กำลังคล้อยต่ำ มันคือความงดงามที่ไร้คำพูดจริงๆ

เราเพียงแต่หวังว่า ชาวบ้านที่นี่ จะยังคงเก็บรักษาสิ่งเหล่านี้ต่อไป สำหรับเรามันคือ "ความงามที่ไร้คำพูด ไร้คำพูด" ที่จะบรรยาย

เรื่องราวของ "คนเอาถ่าน" ตอนที่ 1

ตั้งแต่เราย้ายกลับมาอยู่ที่เพชรบุรีไม่กี่ปี เพื่อนรุ่นพี่คนหนึ่งพูดถึงเตาถ่าน 100 ปีที่ให้เราฟัง ด้วยความอยากรู้อยากเห็นเรารีบขี่รถไปทันทีที่ "บ้านบางตะบูน" จริงๆแล้วอายุของเตาไม่ถึง 100ปีหรอก แต่ก็ไม่ต่ำกว่า 70 ปี เป็นเตาของ "กำนันตู่" ซึ่งที่นี่ปัจจุบันยังมีการทำอย่างต่อเนื่องตลอดทั้งปี

กำนันตู่เล่าให้ฟังว่าชาวบ้านที่นี่เค้าทำกันมากนานมากมายตั้งแต่บรรพบุรุษ เพราะเป็นแหล่งไม้โกงกางที่ใหญ่มากแห่งหนึ่ง และตอนนี้ก็เหลืออีกไม่กี่เตาเท่านั้นที่ยังทำกัน การทำถ่านเป็นงานหนักและใช้เวลานาน เริ่มตั้งแต่การตัดไม้ ไปจนถึงการบรรจุใส่กระสอบพร้อมขาย

กำนันตู่เล่าเสริมอีกว่าคนทั่วๆไปมักจะเข้าใจกันผิดว่านี่คือการเผาถ่าน แต่จริงๆแล้วมันคือ "การอบไม้เพื่อให้เป็นถ่าน" เพราะถ้าเผา ไม้ก็จะไหม้จนหมดไม่เหลือถ่านให้เราได้ใช้กัน

การอบถ่านใช้ระยะเวลานาน 2 สัปดาห์หรืออาจจะนานกว่านั้นถ้าไม้มีขนาดใหญ่มาก และในระยะเวลาที่อบไม้ จะต้องเติมเชื้อฟืนกันอยู่ตลาดเวลาทั้งวันทั้งคืน จะปล่อยให้ขาดไม่ได้

ที่เตาถ่านมี "พี่เรือนและพี่วัตร" เป็นผู้ช่วยประจำ ซึ่งพี่ๆแต่ละท่านมีอายุมากกว่า 70 ปี พี่เรือนบอกว่าปีนี้แก อายุ 76 แล้ว เริ่มหัดทำและเข้าวงการเตาถ่านกันตั้งแต่เป็นวัยรุ่นเลยทีเดียว เรียนรู้โดยใช้วิธีโบราณจากคนรุ่นก่อน ที่เรียกว่า "ครูพักรักจำ" ฝึกการดมกลิ่นและดูสีควัน ว่าเมื่อไหร่ไม้จะสุกใช้ได้

กว่าจะมาถึงวันนี้ "การเป็นคนเอาถ่าน" ของพี่เรือนและพี่วัตร สามารถหารายได้ส่งให้ลูกๆที่มีอยู่หลายคน ได้เรียนหนังสือจนจบและหางานทำกันได้เลยทีเดียว

แม้ว่าอายุของทั้ง 2 คนเกือบจะ 150 ปีแล้ว แต่ก็ดูไม่มีทีท่าว่าจะยอมเกษียณ จากเตาถ่านกันง่ายๆ

อีก 2 สัปดาห์นับจากวันนี้ ก็จะต้องปิดช่องเตาที่ใส่เชื้อไฟ เพื่อให้อุณภูมิถ่านที่สุกแล้วข้างในเย็นลง

แล้วเจอกันอีกในขั้นตอนต่อไปของการทำถ่านนะคะ

This is how thing were yesterday!
Actually we did not make any plan to go any where before. Palmplantation and Keang Gra Chan just popped up in my head while I was having lunch. Then Sunny, Russian fellow texted me "shell we go to somewhere today, Oh?."

"Yes, Why not," I replied.

Fortunately, we have seen more than we expected to. Alex is pretty much enjoy the Great Outdoor class without an organized activity, he walked and ran around Cacoa farm, and grabed it for first time. It is such a pure way go.

Spoon-billed Sandpiper is an extremely rare and critically endangered shorebird that is possible to see during winter months in my hometown of Phetchaburi.

Hello Everyone

Long time no see. I'm Oh, I've come back with my little companion three years old Alex. He is the young son of my friends from Russia. Time to get out of my comfort zone, which doesn't bring me comfort anymore. Today we start with a short trip and a good meal at Lilyn home cafe and garden, which is not far from town, only a few kilometers, where my little dude can experience new things.

Leam Pak Bia is one of my favourit place to come in the late after noon about 4 pm. Here is a good place to relaxing, feel nice breeze, bird watching and cycling. Absolutely I would not miss sunset scenery. And you ? Are you sunset lover?? :)

Today is Loy Krathon day. It's one of the most popular festival of Thailand celebrated annually on the full-moon day of the Twelveth Lunar Months it take place at a time when the weather is fine as the rainy season is over and there is a high water level all over the country. It's time to thank the Water Goddess for a year's worth of her abundant supply as well as an apology for polluting the waters. Loy means "float away", Krathong is a Thai term which refers to a piece of banana trunk decorated with flowers, banana leaves, candle and incense sticks. Many Thais believe that the krathongs carry away sin and bad luck, and the wishes that have been made for many good things to come. :)
