TAJIK LANGUAGE DAY
October 5 is celebrated as Tajik(Farsi) Language Day in Tajikistan. Tajik Persian is an official language in Tajikistan. Cyrillic alphabet is used for this language in Tajikistan since 1930s. The language was saved by great figures of Tajik people like Sadriddin Ayni despite the fact that the script was changed and a lot of Russian words were introduced. Tajik, Dari and Farsi are mutually intelligible and considered to be just three names of the same language. It is an inseparable part of the national identity in Tajikistan. People of Tajikistan believe they are the heirs of the 1000-year-old Persian literature along with other Persian speakers of the world and this outstanding literature is taught at school starting with Rudaki (858-941), the founder of Persian classical literature, who was born in what is now Tajikistan. Great Persian poets like Firdousi, Saadi, Hafez, Rumi, Khayyam and Bedil are equally revered along with Rudaki and Naser Khosrow.
We are proud of being the native speakers of one of classical languages of the world the others being Greek, Latin and Sanskrit and etc.
