When travelling on your Pamir Highway Adventure you'll soon realise that we're a family run business!

Our owner, Ubaidulla Mamadiev is frequently referred to as the 'grandfather' of tourism in the Eastern Pamir. He was born in Murghab and has worked in the sector for over forty years.

His three sons and one daughter now all work in the business too and a third generation of the family will soon be joining them on their travels.

Eastern Pamir vs Western Pamir?

We often get questions about where to go and what to see and these choices are frequently determined by the time people have available. Some will spend most of their time in the west and the Wakhan and then simply travel through the east. Others will get a taxi for Dushanbe directly to Khorog and start their journey there via the Wakhan, spending most time in the east.

The real answer is to balance your time in both east and west as they are so completely different. The west is all steep 'V' shaped valleys and soaring summits with lush valley floors. The east is a high altitude desert with expansive vistas, contrasting brown hues and beautiful indigo lakes.

So, whatever you do, don't visit one without the other unless you plan to come back next year and complete your itinerary in this amazing region!

We had the pleasure of our driver, Taalaibek Kojahmatov, escorting participants of the 'Roof of the World' Regatta to and from the event on a 10 day tour of the region. He also had the opportunity to assist with the organising and general support of the activities.

On day 3 of the 'Roof of the World' Regatta our plans all came together and we held shore-side activities with the local community alongside some competitive sailing on the lake.

Over 250 participants on the beach enjoyed kiting, volleyball, games and competitions. A party atmosphere with everyone involved!

We closed the day and the regatta with our award to our competition winner - Polly Saskia Crathorne. Well done to all that took part in the highest sailing event in the world...

Be there...!

So, whilst hoping for good weather and winds, later this week begins another 'Roof of the World' Regatta.

On Thursday (24th) we hope to open the regatta with some kite-boarding off shore by the village - probably around 5pm.

On Friday (25th) we plan to head for the north shore of the lake and sail close to and around the islands.

On Saturday (26th) we plan to hold the main event with some shore-side activities in the afternoon prior to the sailing in the evening. Last year we had over 300 people out on the shore watching the kite-boarders. Hope to see even more local participation this time around!

We will also have local TV, international journalists and photographers capturing the event - so don't miss it...
