In Tunisia, as in many Muslim countries, (and food in general) is treated with respect. For example, food is not to be wasted; one does not take more than one can eat (that is, food is not left uneaten on a plate). One should not waste bread, nor disregard it, nor step on it if it is in the path, because sustenance comes from the earth and is a blessing from Allah. For this reason, you might find pieces of bread which were picked up, and put somewhere for the birds, sheep, etc.

Under the magnificent Zitounet el Akarit", the enormous olive tree known as “Akarit”. The circumference of the tree covers an area of 2000 m2 !Not the oldest in (which is in Cap Bon) but certainly the largest.
The largest known harvest was in 1992, when this single tree produced no less than 1,520 litres of oil !!!
