Little Tilllymint came in yesterday but sadly passed away today đ
She was as originally found in a field, but the finders couldnât keep her so passed her on to a neighbour who kept her in a shoebox out in the garden overnight, and then one of our supporters offered to take her to Medivet but on route messaged me and I have just one incubator empty (as someone else had passed away that morning).
She was already floppy, freezing cold, anemic from the very high burden of ticks (maybe around 200!), and she was so dehydrated that her eyeballs had sunken in to the back of her head. She was too weak to hold her body in the curl position when I was weighing her.
Had she been given to a rescue when first found, she may have survived. But instead lifesaving injectable fluids, a sufficient heat source and the appropriate assessments were delayed.
I really do understand how frustrating it is that so many places are closed to new admissions, and they you may need to travel to get your hedgehog help. But imagine being so unwell and dependent on humans to help, and you are just handed over then handed over then handed over đ
Please also only ever hand it over to a rescue or someone volunteering on behalf of a rescue, otherwise again itâs just denying the wee thing the appropriate veterinary support it needs đ
