Rumeli Hisar fortress in Istanbul is famous for two thngs. First of all,because it was built very fast in only 139 day's! And Secondly,because she helps the turks conquer Constantinople. The capital of the once great byzantine empire. It helped because it was built in the narrowest point of the bosporus strait and blocked the way for ships from the black sea to Constantinople. After the Ottoman conquest of the city. Rumeli hisari served as a customs post and sometimes a prison. During the great earthquake of 1509 the fortress was significantly destroyed,but was quickly restored and was used continuously until the end of the 19th century.

The fortress remained abandoned afterwards.

Extensive restoration work began in the fortress in 1953. The fortress was opened to visitors in 1968 and originally operated for outdoor concerts.

Today rumeli hisari fortress is a historical monument and landmark of the city. Anyone can visit the fortress,it function as a museum.
