⛏️ Maybe you have seen a certain number of amphitheaters and theaters across the world. But you won't be proud if you have not yet visited the Aspendos Theater. It is widely considered the best-preserved ancient Roman theater in the world. The theater, which is located in the ancient city of Aspendos in southern Turkey, is notable for its sheer scale and extremely well-preserved amphitheater. The theater was built during the reign of the Roman Empire and was designed by Zenon, son of Theodorus, as known from the inscriptions on its walls. In addition, the inscriptions that inform tourists about the more detailed construction are worth seeing.

✅ Although the structure was built in ancient Roman times, it also has Greek characteristics since its city was once conquered by Greeks, Persians, and then Romans. The theater measured 96 meters in overall width and was equipped with an impressive two-story stage and seating rows that were decorated with marble carvings. Surprisingly, this ancient theater is still in use today. The annual Antalya Opera and Art Festival is held at the theater. If you happen to catch the festival, you will be strikingly impressed by its acoustic effect from 2000 years ago.

The heart of a bustling city like Antalya might not be the first place you’d expect to find one of the county’s loveliest beaches, but there it is.

No more than a stone’s throw from the city centre, Mermerli Beach is a small city beach tucked away next to the old port. Since Antalya is a pedestrian-only zone, Mermerli can only be reached on foot, but there is nothing better than a spot of relaxing, sunbathing and swimming after a morning spent walking in town.

To access the beach, you pay a small fee at the entrance of Mermerli Restaurant and descend a wooden staircase from there. Included in the price are a sun lounger and parasol, and you’ll be able to have drinks, ice creams and food brought right to your seat from the restaurant. A stone plateau and wooden terraces have extended the small natural beach of brown sand and pebbles, but keep in mind that there is very limited space. There is plenty of room in the water, though, and the sea is clear with beautiful views of the opposite coast.

🪢 The Grand Bazaar, built in 15th-century Istanbul, is the oldest covered market in the world. It served as a main hub between ancient Europe and Asia, boasting a history as long as its corridors and gates. This enormous plaza features eleven main gates, five mosques, and even a school. Inside, over three thousand shops offer a range of goods, from spices to textiles, and gold and diamonds.

💠 With 26,000 employees, the bustling market overwhelms the senses. Initially a small trading place, it was favored by guilds for its secure gates that could be closed at night to deter thieves. The market grew larger over time, with smaller centers around the main plaza eventually united under a single roof.

🍀 Guides offer walkthroughs for a fee, and haggling is an art form here. Vendors can be persuasive, offering exotic goods and experiences. The market is known as the world's oldest bank.

💎 The Grand Bazaar immerses visitors in a medieval atmosphere, with Turkish carpets, spices, and handcrafts. Among its 3,500 stores, over a thousand sell jewelry. Even the market's dirt is valuable, as companies bid for the rights to collect garbage, which may contain traces of gold.

Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi, representing love and a boundless journey into the infinite, is celebrated as a grand spiritual master and a poetic genius in human history. He was the founder of the Mevlevi Sufi Order, a mystic Islamic brotherhood built on love and tolerance. Born on 30 September 1207 in Balkh, now part of modern-day Afghanistan, Rumi's family fled the Mongol invasion, eventually settling in Konya, in the Seljuk Empire. Succeeding his father as a professor in religious sciences at the age of 24, Rumi was already a distinguished scholar.

His teachings emphasize love as a path to the Divine, advocating for an existence merged with God, free from the ego. Rumi's philosophy transcends words and perceptions, offering a vision of love, divine truth, and unity. His sanctuary in Konya, consisting of a mausoleum, mosque, dance hall, and more, continues to attract pilgrims from all over the world.

Rumi's enduring message is of love, transcending religious and cultural boundaries. His night of passing, 17 December, is celebrated as Şeb-i Arus, symbolizing his union with the divine. Rumi's works, especially 'The Masnavi', have been translated globally, making him a best-selling poet in many countries, including the USA.

The Whirling Dervishes Ceremony, a part of the Mevlevi tradition, is a spiritual practice symbolizing the divine journey to perfection.
