Did you know that the Institute of Marine Affairs (IMA) is the only multi-disciplinary coastal, marine and environmental research organisation in the CARICOM states established to conduct inter-disciplinary studies?

In keeping with World Oceans Day, celebrated annually on June 8, we would like to feature the work done by the IMA and by extension the Ministry of Planning & Development; to raise awareness about the vital role the oceans play in our lives and the need for their conservation.

Through initiatives that align with the goals of World Oceans Day, the IMA ensures that Trinidad's marine environments remain healthy and attractive, promoting both ecological balance and economic prosperity.

Here are some photos of IMA's School Awareness Campaigns:

On , Tourism Trinidad highlights one of our stakeholders, the El Socorro Centre for Wildlife Conservation (ECWC), a non-funded, registered non-profit organisation, which has been dedicated to the conservation of wildlife in Trinidad & Tobago through education, rehabilitation and propagation.

The ECWC's mission is to conserve the wildlife and it's habitat, provide education and rehabilitation, and the propagation of native species for release into appropriate, protected areas of the wild in order to ensure survival of threatened and endangered species, as well as to boost populations of species currently in decline.

The ECWC has success with the breeding (and releasing where appropriate) of birds, snakes, iguanas, agouti, opossum, and semi-aquatic turtles, which began in 2009 and continues today.

The ecwc_tt offers outreach to those interested in learning about Trinidad and Tobago's biodiversity, and the importance of conserving it. To learn more, contact (868) 366-4369 or [email protected]

Today, on , we celebrate the incredible journey of turtles, especially our majestic leatherback turtles that grace the shores of Trinidad every year. From the tranquil waters of the Caribbean to the sandy beaches of Matura, Las Cuevas, Fishing Pond, and Grande Rivière; these gentle giants remind us of the importance of conservation and the beauty of our natural heritage. Let's continue to protect their nesting grounds and ensure future generations can witness their awe-inspiring migration.

NCIC’s Visual Arts Exhibition

A key part of culture can be found in the expressions of art. Art often exudes the intrinsic feelings, connections, and emotions attached to our existence as a people, directly representing and shaping our national identities. It is with this sentiment in mind that officials of Tourism Trinidad were elated to visit and capture the dynamic range of artistic cultural works on display at the National Commission for Indian Culture’s (NCIC) Visual Arts Exhibition. The exhibit, which was formally launched on Sunday, May 18, 2024, at the Divali Nagar, closes officially on June 1.

We recommend patronising this exhibition, which is open to members of the public and contains several works of art on sale from established and upcoming Trinbagonian artists. The NCIC is currently coordinating this and other exciting activities in commemoration of the observance of Indian Heritage Month (May) and the national celebration of Arrival Day (celebrated on May 30 annually in Trinidad and Tobago).

Tourism Trinidad is proud to showcase our dynamic culture through our various online platforms in collaboration with our stakeholders. To learn more about this exhibit and other planned activities, be sure to visit NCIC’s website or social media pages.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines plans to increase flights to Port of Spain, Trinidad, from three times weekly to six times weekly from Amsterdam (AMS) via Sint Maarten (SXM) for the Winter 2024/25 season.

The route has been successful since its reintroduction in October 2021 after almost 30 years; attracting nationals, visitors from the Benelux region and Asia, and passengers connecting to other parts of the Caribbean and South America.

The average load factor has steadily increased, reaching around 92 percent from January to March 2024, which has translated into the more seats being allocated to the destination. This is a welcome opportunity to attract more tourist arrivals, as the nation continues its efforts to fully rebound to pre pandemic levels.

72 tourism stakeholders from across the transportation, restaurant and accommodation sectors are now better equipped with the knowledge and resources needed for the prevention and control of infectious diseases. This was possible thanks to useful information shared today at a workshop held by CARPHA Caribbean Public Health Agency in collaboration with Tourism Trinidad entitled “Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in the Hospitality Sector.”

With the expected influx of visitors and spectators entering the country to view and partake in the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, the organisers of this workshop deemed it necessary to provide the relevant information and support needed to empower our tourism industry partners.

Presenting at the workshop was Dr. Lisa Indar, Director of CARPHA, SDPC, and Mr. Keston Daniel, Epidemiologist at CARPHA.
