A compilation featuring some of the other sightseeing tours with our New Zealand ladies group:

Each day they were treated to different local meals including roti, doubles, pelau, trini-chinese food, coconut bake, pastelles, homemade fruit cake, red mango, toolum and tamarind balls.

They moved on to Tobago for a couple more tours and some relaxation after a hectic few days in Trinidad.

For the past few days we've been touring all around Trinidad with a vibesy group of ladies from New Zealand 🇳🇿

The first day started with a surprise 🙌🏻 treat as we took them to Brian Lara's book signing!! He liked them so much, we got invited to his house to hangout afterwards!

Each got a free signed copy of his book, a complimentary cocktail and entertainment by Joshua Regrello!

On Sunday 17th November 2024 we're hiking to the pristine waters of Brasso Seco at the 7 Sisters Gorge - a series of 7 small waterfalls and pools going down a narrow gorge system.
A short river walk leads to the first waterfall and then simple rock climbing and small jumps are required to navigate down the rocks to the other pools.

After the hike we'll be checking out the Brasso Seco village council's annual cookfest - wildmeat, creole dishes, local chocolate and other cocoa products, and homemade sweets and treats would all be on sale!

A few things to clarify...

1) We aren't directly contracted to the National Trust however we've provided transport and tour guide services for a couple of their events.

2) We can accommodate any size of group for our private tours however we limit our public hikes to around 20 persons as it's more manageable and more enjoyable with the smaller groups.

Cascade Mountain (4098ft) conquered 🙌🏾

My daily commute to and from class during the WFR training (see previous post) took me past Cascade Mountain and Upper and Lower Cascade Lakes meaning fantastic driving scenery 🏞️ 💯.

I just had 1 day reserved for a hike so although other locations were top of the bucket list, passing these every day really piqued my interest to see what the view was like above the lakes. And oh boy was it worth it 🙌🏾🙌🏾

At the peak there are amazing 360⁰ views of the surrounding mountains as well as the town of Lake Placid (where the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics were held).

In the Adirondack Mountains there are 46 peaks above 4000ft in height (called the High Peaks) and this was labeled as the easiest of them to climb - 2 hours uphill hiking till the last part which was a steepish scramble on bare open rock to the summit.
This was the first time I ever climbed to such an altitude and breathing was tough approaching the summit 😮‍💨.

The summit of Porter Mountain (4059ft) took another half hour hiking on a branch off trail however it was fully enclosed with trees (so no nice views). I was still able to tick ✅ 2 High Peaks off the list...44 more to go 🙌🏾

Wilderness First Responder training completed ✅💯

The course by Wilderness Medical Associates International dealt with responding to medical ⛑️ emergencies in remote environmental settings with limited resources.

Being an international certification a broad range of topics were covered but some of the more relevant ones to us in the Caribbean included snake bites, allergic reactions, asthma, dislocations, broken bones, wound cleaning and proper evacuation techniques.

It was a really fun, tough and long journey to achieve this qualification that started with several weeks of studying 📖 at home; followed by traveling all the way to the in Lake Placid, New York for a week of intense practical 🩺💉sessions; together with assignments 📝 and exams.

The knowledge and hands on skills would definitely go a long way in raising 📈 the standard of care and quality of service to our customers 🙌🏾.

Thanks 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 to for being an excellent instructor 🧑‍🏫 and to the for providing such a scenic 🏔️ location and excellent facilities.

Despite the inclement weather this week, we were out and about touring and exploring 🙌🏾.

After the rains and floods on Thursday morning we hosted a company work retreat with the management of Massy Pharmacy, taking them on a sunset down the islands cruise 🛥️ 🌅 🏖️ 👙 🛶 🧘.

Next weekend we're hiking to one of the most popular, most fun and most challenging destinations, Paria Waterfall!

With stops at scenic views such as Morne Poui Bay, Turtle Rock and Cathedral Rock, the journey to the waterfall will take approx. 3.5 hours at a casual pace.

For the return leg there are 2 options:
1) hike back out to the starting point
Or
2) take a boat from Paria Bay out to Blanchisseuse
(persons taking the boat option would also have about an hour more at the waterfall)

Photo dump of our hike to Turure Watersteps over the weekend.

The recent rainfall led to high expectations of waterfalls at full flow, resulting in a lot of foot traffic from several groups at the destination.

However water levels were still quite low, which lead to the other groups leaving early.

Props to our hikers who were unperturbed and made the most of the outing 🙌🏽

We finished the clearing away of a fallen tree at one of the pools (which was started by a previous group) and having the entire place to ourselves we were able to comfortably bathe and enjoy the peace and serenity of Turure!

We'll revisit this location futher into the rainy season when the water levels are higher and the waterfalls are flowing at their majestic best!

A full day of nature tours with guests from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and Switzerland 🇨🇭, courtesy of 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

The morning was spent at the Asa Wright Nature Center, enjoying the peaceful ambiance, bird watching and exploring the nature trails followed by a delicious buffet lunch

Then we moved on to the Caroni Bird Sanctuary with for a relaxing sunset boat tour through the swamp, enjoying views of the Caribbean flamingoes, Great Egrets and scarlet ibis, and getting a taste of our local delicacy, pineapple chow 🙌🏽

Caroni Bird Sanctuary Tour at Sunrise 🌄. Guided by a full moon 🌚 we set sail at 4.45am in order to catch the first glimmer of light when the birds take off for the day. It was so serene and quiet, then within a few minutes thousands of birds of every colour took to the skies in every direction to scatter and feed throughout the vast expanse of the Caroni Swamp. Some of the birds we observed were Scarlet Ibis, white egrets, pink flamingoes and herons of various types and colours. A light shower of rain added to the excitement and provided a brilliant rainbow 🌈 to the background. The Guides

Just trippin’ is led by Devindra Harnarine, a trained and certified tour guide, based in San Fernando, Trinidad. Devindra has years of experience leading both local and foreign tourists on a wide range of tours, having been a tour guide at the cruise ship complex and a hike leader for a number of hiking clubs.

The other guides on the Just trippin’ team have years of hiking experience and expertise. All guides are trained and certified first aiders and have swimming rescue skills training.
