Cascade Mountain (4098ft) conquered 🙌🏾
My daily commute to and from class during the WFR training (see previous post) took me past Cascade Mountain and Upper and Lower Cascade Lakes meaning fantastic driving scenery 🏞️ 💯.
I just had 1 day reserved for a hike so although other locations were top of the bucket list, passing these every day really piqued my interest to see what the view was like above the lakes. And oh boy was it worth it 🙌🏾🙌🏾
At the peak there are amazing 360⁰ views of the surrounding mountains as well as the town of Lake Placid (where the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics were held).
In the Adirondack Mountains there are 46 peaks above 4000ft in height (called the High Peaks) and this was labeled as the easiest of them to climb - 2 hours uphill hiking till the last part which was a steepish scramble on bare open rock to the summit.
This was the first time I ever climbed to such an altitude and breathing was tough approaching the summit 😮💨.
The summit of Porter Mountain (4059ft) took another half hour hiking on a branch off trail however it was fully enclosed with trees (so no nice views). I was still able to tick ✅ 2 High Peaks off the list...44 more to go 🙌🏾

Wilderness First Responder training completed ✅💯
The course by Wilderness Medical Associates International dealt with responding to medical ⛑️ emergencies in remote environmental settings with limited resources.
Being an international certification a broad range of topics were covered but some of the more relevant ones to us in the Caribbean included snake bites, allergic reactions, asthma, dislocations, broken bones, wound cleaning and proper evacuation techniques.
It was a really fun, tough and long journey to achieve this qualification that started with several weeks of studying 📖 at home; followed by traveling all the way to the in Lake Placid, New York for a week of intense practical 🩺💉sessions; together with assignments 📝 and exams.
The knowledge and hands on skills would definitely go a long way in raising 📈 the standard of care and quality of service to our customers 🙌🏾.
Thanks 🫱🏼🫲🏽 to for being an excellent instructor 🧑🏫 and to the for providing such a scenic 🏔️ location and excellent facilities.

Despite the inclement weather this week, we were out and about touring and exploring 🙌🏾.
After the rains and floods on Thursday morning we hosted a company work retreat with the management of Massy Pharmacy, taking them on a sunset down the islands cruise 🛥️ 🌅 🏖️ 👙 🛶 🧘.

Next weekend we're hiking to one of the most popular, most fun and most challenging destinations, Paria Waterfall!
With stops at scenic views such as Morne Poui Bay, Turtle Rock and Cathedral Rock, the journey to the waterfall will take approx. 3.5 hours at a casual pace.
For the return leg there are 2 options:
1) hike back out to the starting point
Or
2) take a boat from Paria Bay out to Blanchisseuse
(persons taking the boat option would also have about an hour more at the waterfall)

Photo dump of our hike to Turure Watersteps over the weekend.
The recent rainfall led to high expectations of waterfalls at full flow, resulting in a lot of foot traffic from several groups at the destination.
However water levels were still quite low, which lead to the other groups leaving early.
Props to our hikers who were unperturbed and made the most of the outing 🙌🏽
We finished the clearing away of a fallen tree at one of the pools (which was started by a previous group) and having the entire place to ourselves we were able to comfortably bathe and enjoy the peace and serenity of Turure!
We'll revisit this location futher into the rainy season when the water levels are higher and the waterfalls are flowing at their majestic best!

A full day of nature tours with guests from England 🏴 and Switzerland 🇨🇭, courtesy of 🫱🏼🫲🏽
The morning was spent at the Asa Wright Nature Center, enjoying the peaceful ambiance, bird watching and exploring the nature trails followed by a delicious buffet lunch
Then we moved on to the Caroni Bird Sanctuary with for a relaxing sunset boat tour through the swamp, enjoying views of the Caribbean flamingoes, Great Egrets and scarlet ibis, and getting a taste of our local delicacy, pineapple chow 🙌🏽

On Labour Day we'll be hiking to the L'eau Michel Mud Volcano in Penal (also known as Bunsee Trace Mud Volcano).
This is an extremely fun and unique trip as we not only bathe in the mud, we create a slip and slide down the hill with the mud!!!
After the mud bath, we hike down to the beach to wash off.
The hike will be done in 3 legs:
Leg 1: hike from the parking area to the volcano (1 hour)
Leg 2: hike from the volcano to the L'eau Michel Beach to wash off the mud (30 mins)
Leg 3: hike from the beach back to the vehicles (1.5 hours)
(Persons with 4x4 vehicles may be able to drive all the way to the volcano)
Please note:
Seeing as most of our hikers are south-based and this is a hike in Penal, no bus pickup locations nor costs are included. However if anyone requires bus transport please contact us and we'll organize accordingly.

Paradise Bay is one of the many small beaches found along the Paria trail, but what makes this one really stand out is the beautiful open-ended cave along it's shoreline!!
True to it's name, in the right conditions, this can be a photographer's/model's paradise!
It's an hour long walk along an undulating dirt road followed by a steepish descent to the beach.

A lookback at some of our private Paramin tours in April 🙌🏽.
Earlier in the month the hills were alive with vibrant colours of the yellow and pink Poui trees.
April showers in mid-month brought misty skies and cool 🥶 temperatures.
Towards the very end of the month the Sahara dust cleared up giving fantastic clear, distant views of San Fernando, Tobago and Venezuela.

On Saturday we enjoyed a moonlit, starry sky for our turtle watching tour out on Matura Beach.
No matter how many times we do this tour, it's always a beautiful experience where we learn something new each time.

Next weekend we venture into the Heights of Guanapo to Tombasson Waterfall!
This is a fun challenging hike which navigates its way through towering gorges and deep pools, and over small waterfalls and massive boulders to get to the 40ft tall Tombasson Falls.

We're going turtle watching this weekend!
The Leatherback Turtle nesting season is at its peak with lots of turtles laying each night as well as the first groups of hatchlings starting to emerge!
This is a really enjoyable and informative family-friendly tour {however we don't recommend it for kids under 5 years old}.

After an hour long walk along a shady, undulating trail, we'll get to the river and spend the day exploring, swimming, relaxing and floating downstream at the various pools.

Caroni Bird Sanctuary Tour at Sunrise 🌄. Guided by a full moon 🌚 we set sail at 4.45am in order to catch the first glimmer of light when the birds take off for the day. It was so serene and quiet, then within a few minutes thousands of birds of every colour took to the skies in every direction to scatter and feed throughout the vast expanse of the Caroni Swamp. Some of the birds we observed were Scarlet Ibis, white egrets, pink flamingoes and herons of various types and colours. A light shower of rain added to the excitement and provided a brilliant rainbow 🌈 to the background. Just trippin’ is led by Devindra Harnarine, a trained and certified tour guide, based in San Fernando, Trinidad. Devindra has years of experience leading both local and foreign tourists on a wide range of tours, having been a tour guide at the cruise ship complex and a hike leader for a number of hiking clubs.
The other guides on the Just trippin’ team have years of hiking experience and expertise. All guides are trained and certified first aiders and have swimming rescue skills training.
