Island Exotics Ltd. Check out www.experience.islandexoticsltd.com for our latest Island Experience ;) since its inception in 2006. For more information on Island Exotics Ltd.

Trinidad & Tobago has always been both the home and heart of Island Exotics Ltd. The experience of being an islander, of living the daily Trinbagonian life and of helping others realise the same easy-going, relaxed, yet exotic vibe that makes the islands such a wonderful home has been the focus of Island Exotics Ltd. We started with a small retail business and small scale event management, then ex

panded to include real estate, mainly for short-term island getaways. We’re big on customer service, and so the well-rounded and all-inclusive experience our island rentals look for has always been around – today, we call it the Island Experience. More than just a one-time, casual getaway, the Island Experience has grown to be a full immersion vacation experience centred on Trinidad & Tobago’s most popular cultural events, from Carnival to Divali to livin’ a true Trini Christmas and Tobago New Year. We take our time in planning each experience, and they are available only during certain times of the year for special events. visit www.islandexoticsltd.com. If you're all about the Experience, see what our current or next event is at www.experience.islandexoticsltd.com.

Unlike many Caribbean islands, Trinidad and Tobago doesn’t have to promote tourism to fuel its economy – which means travellers are missing out on the country’s diverse wildlife, gorgeous beaches and South Asain flair

Food has a way to transport you to a place. For Trinidadians far from home, the dish of choice is Roti — but it's not just any old bread.

Moving forward every day!

"I’m from Chaguanas but spend a lot of time in POS because there’s such a vibrant community of people my age who are interested in art, poetry, photography, dance and music. We talk about politics, the world, love, inter-racial relationships and what it means for society with more and more people crossing those barriers of race, culture and religion. I remember one big moment-I was 16 years old and going to school in a taxi with three other passengers. There was an old man who was drunk or crazy, who all of a sudden, started spewing very prejudicial comments. I was so angry and wanted to respond to his insanity;I could feel my eyes stinging. A young Indian girl sitting next to me took my hand and said “That is the past. We are the future”. I don’t even know her name. Prejudices exists- not just here but everywhere in the world. We can’t be blind to it. The more people replace prejudices with the idea of equality the better our chances of things changing."

People enjoying T&T :)

"We are Canadian. Two years ago we decided we wanted to have an adventure and live in another country for a while. We had met a couple of Trinis back home and the two things that stood out was the passion and the patriotism . We took a leap of faith and landed here- we found work, friends and adventure. We never chose to live on the surface -we tried everything, went everywhere we were invited, and made a conscious choice not to miss an opportunity of engaging. Yes, we got frustrated and irritated by things that all Trinis do- like the traffic, getting a parking ticket and not being able to pay it because you’re wearing shorts but hey…..We are careful and aware and fortunately were never affected by crime. Our joy has not come as visitors, but from being welcomed as guests. It’s been a phenomenal two years. Its time to move to another phase but we both feel like we would love to have this exact time all over again."

Port-of-Spain- Celebrating 100 years as a city

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Whitehall

Whitehall, originally called Rosenweg, was constructed in 1904 and commissioned by Corsican born cacao planter Joseph Leon Agostini. One story is that the Agostini family lived at Whitehall until J.L. Agostini's sudden death in 1906. Another story claims that the Agostinis never lived in the building because they could not afford to complete it. Whichever version is true, the family was unable to hold on to the property and it changed ownership. The white three storey building, located between Archbishops Residence to the south and Stollmeyers Castle to the north, was later purchased by American businessman Robert Henderson who painted it white and renamed it Whitehall. In 1954, the building was purchased by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and became the Office of Trinidad and Tobago’s first Prime Minister Dr. Eric Williams in 1963. The building was restored in 2000 and continued to be used as the office of the Prime Minister until 2009. Today the building stands vacant, but it is said that the ghost of Leon Agostini can still occasionally be seen sitting on the porch terrace, lamenting his loss.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Queen’s Royal College

Queen’s Royal College, also known as QRC, is considered to be the most striking of the historic Magnificent Seven heritage buildings. The secondary school is noted for its famous German Renaissance architecture and multi-faceted education programme which continues to produce some of Trinidad and Tobago's leading thinkers, athletes, artists and politicians. The college was established in 1870 and housed at Prince’s Building – which was destroyed by fire in the late 1970s and located where the National Academy for the Performing Arts now stands – before relocation to its present site in 1904.

The initial name for the school was the Royal College of Trinidad, however, when Queen Victoria was asked for her sponsorship, on approval, the name was changed to Queen’s Royal College. Currently the imposing building is used as a boy's college and a full restoration of the main building was completed in 2010. During the restoration, paint was carefully stripped from the walls to identify the original colours and decorative panels to the classrooms were revealed. These were restored in certain selected areas. Permission is required to enter the site and access is limited to parents and students.
