NCTU Pongal Festival Celebration NCTU பொங்கல் விழா
Pongal is the one of a traditional festival in India. It is celebrated to mark the withdrawal of the southeast monsoons as well as the reaping of the harvest.
The name of the festival is derived from Pongal, a rice pudding made from freshly harvested rice, milk and jaggery. In English, it is called harvest festival which is similar to Thanksgiving Day. In an agriculture based civilization the harvest plays an important part. The farmer cultivating his land depends on cattle, timely rain and the Sun. Once a year, he expresses his gratitude to these during the harvest festival.
Pongal is a three-day festival which gives a plenty of joys, happiness, and peacefulness and the fourth day is a day for outdoors and excursions. This festival is to bring peace, happiness, prosperity, brightness and harmony in the life of everyone. All the four days of Pongal have their own significance as separate deities are worshiped each day.
