We just finished a successful trip to Chiaming Lake (嘉明湖) with four guests from the US. The weather was on the cold side, but the mountain views were fantastic and we were treated to a multi-day sea of clouds on the Taitung side of the island. Winter high-mountain hiking in Taiwan at its best!

We have a departure for Jin Shui Ying Ancient Trail on Saturday 13/ January 2024.

This one-day hike departs from Kaohsiung at 6am and returns at 6pm. We follow an Aborigine migration route from Taitung on the east coast to Pingtung.

Sat. - Mon. Jan. 13 - 15/2024
Beidawu Mt. 3,092m - the highest peak in S. Taiwan. We'll have a 3D 2N trip on this iconic mountain which is one of the Top 100 in Taiwan.

Sat - Sun Feb. 17 - 18/ 2024
Jiuhaocha - a remote Aborigine village deep in the mountains of Pingtung that is only accessible on foot in the winter. One of my favourite trips.

Maling Hotsprings - hike along a river bed into a natural hot springs in Nantou county.

Sat - Mon April 13 - 15/2024
Jade Mt. 3,952m - the highest peak in Taiwan and on everyone's bucket list.

Blue Skies Adventures will have the following trips coming up this summer.
We will be starting a series of day trips from Kaohsiung this summer along with our usual outings to the high mountains.
The two day trips in June have great hikes ending with a splash in nearby rivers in the Pingtung area.
June 10 - Bachengbamou Mt. 937m.
This trip will depart from Kaohsiung at 7am and return in time for dinner. It's a fairly steep hike which will take 4 - 5hrs.
After the hike we take a dip in a nearby river.
Cost: NT$1,800 per person.
Includes return transport from Kaohsiung, gude and insurance.
June 11 Lilong Mt. 1,061m
This trip will depart from Kaohsiung at 7am and return in time for dinner. It's a fairly steep hike which will take 5 -6hrs.
We hike up from the north entrance and then trace a river down to the south entrance.
Cost: NT$1,800 per person.
Includes return transport from Kaohsiung, gude and insurance.
In July we will have a 3D 2N trip to the South 3 Stars on the South Cross-island Highway.
We get to bag 3 of the Top 100 Peaks of Taiwan.
To add some comfort we'll be spending both nights indoors, no camping or special equipment necessary.

That rule could come to Taiwan too. Since it's dated to commence from April 1 I'll take it with a pinch of salt for the moment.
