📍National Center for Traditional Arts｜Yilan

National Center for Traditional Arts is the largest exhibition and performance site for arts with rich collection of cultural antiques in Taiwan. The life of the past of Taiwan has been recreated here along with historic streets, traditional stages and houses with a brick kiln in the center.🏚️

📍Fenqihu｜Alishan, Chiayi

Famous for the “railway lunchbox” 🍱Fenqihu is a historic train station that makes a popular pit-stop on the way to Alishan. Walking along the 1.2-kilometer-long trail and passing through groves of tortoise-shell bamboo, you will arrive at the ruins of a Japanese shinto shrine hidden in the forest. 🛤️This short stroll is nice and cool especially in spring and summer. Before leaving Fenqihu, be sure to have a delicious railway lunchbox and take a stroll along the old street.

When the night falls, you might even spot little dancing fireflies creating a magical illusion in a completely natural setting of enchanted forests – this will be the experience of a lifetime in early spring!

📍Fort San Domingo｜Tamsui, New Taipei

Located in Tamsui, was once called ""Hong Mao Chen"" by the local Han Chinese residents due to its association with the Dutch. Later, the British refurbished the fort as a consulate office, transforming it into a unique blend of military and diplomatic purposes. 🏰

The two-story red brick building exhibits typical British colonial architecture with a touch of Chinese elements, offering a glimpse into the life of a consul. In addition to the fort, the former British Consular Residence, built in the late 19th century, now serves as a museum showcasing the consulate's history. Visitors can also enjoy a panoramic view of Guanyin Mountain and the Tamsui River from the lookout, especially at sunset.🌄

This district is famed for a wealth of hot springs and cherry blossoms♨️🌸 The Atayal (the third largest indigenous tribe in Taiwan) also form a big presence in Wulai, which is part of their traditional territory.

Never leave without trying the flavorful sausages,the special condiment made from soy sauce, chili peppers and minced garlic will tickle your taste buds and bring your experience to a whole new level. Another highly raved spot is Kaojia, serving ice-cold eggs that are slow cooked in the water of hot springs.

Wulai is an excellent destination for a day trip from Taipei. With its hot springs, charming old street, delectable indigenous cuisine, and breathtaking waterfalls, it's well worth a visit.🤩

📍Zhushan Sky Ladder｜Nantou

Once one of the only two suspension bridges featuring ladders in the world🪜the Zhushan Sky Ladder has a length of 136 meters and 208 steps, with a difference in height of around 20 meters. This bridge was built on two precipices crossing a river, with the aim of making it easier for tourists to reach Taiji Canyon. Standing on the rocks, Taiji Canyon looks like a human face.🗿

From the entrance to Taiji Canyon, you begin your stroll through bamboo forests. But then the hard work begins as you climb thousands of stairs, crouch through small holes in the rock, cross the Earth God Temple, which is more than a hundred years old, and finally reach the famous Green Dragon Waterfall. ⚠️Be warned, this hike is not for everyone - you need to be reasonably sprightly to walk comfortably here.

Nevertheless, we absolutely recommend the Zhushan Sky Ladder for its natural and impressive beauty!

📍Hinoki Village｜Chiayi

Hinoki Village consists of 28 wooden Japanese-style dormitories. There are some shops of creative cultural works like wooden furniture and food like fruit popsicle, as well as some small museums like Kano Story House that has been popular since the movie “Kano” was released.

Also, exhibitions are held on an irregular basis. The village is still under development in late 2014 and expansion currently and believed to have a more complete and rich appearance in the future, becoming another option of recreation area aside from for tourists traveling to .

A powerful earthquake struck Hualien last week, causing extensive damage to Taroko National Park. From this day onwards, the park will be closed indefinitely for repairs. The once breathtaking scenery is now a distant memory. Let us cherish these stunning pictures in our hearts and pray for Taroko's full recovery and give nature time to heal. 🙏🙏🙏

📍Maobitou｜Kenting

Located on the western side of peninsula, Maobitou defines the sea border of Taiwan Strait and Bashi Channel. 🌊The Chinese name, “Maobitou”, means the head of a cat. It is because one of the rocks here looks like the side of a cat’s head. The strong wave beats the coral rock shore and erodes the surface day and night. Be careful, you don’t want to fall over on the sharp rocks.

However, it is a perfect place to see the waves forming from all directions due to the gusting wind and hidden rocks beneath the water. It is also a great place to see the magnificent stars at night⭐In Taiwan, we hardly can see the southern cross which can be easily seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Kenting will be the best candidate to see it between April and June!

📍Sun Link Sea Forest Park｜Nantou

With an elevation of 1,600 meters and 40 hectares in size, Sun Link Sea Forest Park has something for everyone🌲 Its natural life is brimming with flowers, fir trees and wild animals, of which cherry blossoms are especially popular around Chinese New Year.

Hiking enthusiasts could find several mountain trails around the park, even an average Joe could complete one of the easy one-to-two-day hiking trails in the park🏔️Just relax at your own pace while enjoying a forest bath, breathing in phytoncides released from the forests.

At Sun Link Sea, the landscapes change throughout the four seasons, particularly the sea of tulips that emblazon the forest park with an eye-dazzling palette of colors in January. If you have some extra time to spare, try to look for the 10 wonders of Sun Link Sea, among which Heaven and Earth Eyes and Songlong Rock Waterfall are especially worth visiting – these could be some of the finest works of art created by Mother Nature.

📍Changhua Railway Roundhouse｜Changhua City

In Changhua, this is the only railway roundhouse , or also called fan-shaped train garage remained in Taiwan🚂and there are no more than 3 of railway roundhouses still in use in the world (the rest two are in Mexico).

🛤️Changhua Rail Roundhouse was built in 1922, and its purpose was providing a space for engineers maintaining & repairing locomotives or parking space for long-distance-traveling locomotives. For this reason, it was also called “locomotive hotel”.

Today there are two old steam engines, CK101 and CK124, located in the garage, and it is also used as a maintenance depot for diesel and electric trains. As train accessing garage, the platform spins to the right direction and link the railway between inside and outside. You can witness how locomotives are stored in old fashion way!👀

📍Fo Guang Shan｜Kaoshiung City

‘Fo Guan’ means the light of Buddha. 🛕Fo Guang Shan is Taiwan's largest Buddhist temple area, which is founded by Master Hsingyun. He advocated the "Humanistic Buddhism", hoping to bring the peace and love to the real world, not after life (which is quite debatable).

In addition to the main temple building, the most characteristic building in Fo Guang Shan is the Buddha City design. The city is surrounded by 480 small golden painted Buddha statues, creating a solemn scene. In addition, Buddhism relics exhibition hall collects thousands of pieces of heritages around the world. It’s worth visiting indeed.

The busiest season of Fo Guang Shan is during the Lunar New Year to the Lantern Festival. The mountain is covered with lanterns, becoming a sea of lights at night🎇

📍Dongqing Village｜Orchid Island, Taitung

Dongqing Village🛖 on is meaning “the place where the sun rises earliest”.🌄 Sometimes you can see the aboriginal summer fishing boats lying on the beautiful rocky beach, apparently ready to spring to attention to catch fish at any time.

In the morning, this is the best place to witness sunrise on Orchid Island. In the evening, the beach at Dongqing is more serene and comfortable. On the way to Dongqing Village from Langdao Village, there is the famous Lover’s Cave, as well as a secret spot recommended by the locals.

While in Dongqing, you don’t need to worry about getting hungry. All meals, from breakfast to a midnight snack, are tasty. Take it from us, those who come to Dongqing won’t necessarily see it as “travelling” or “being a tourist”, but more as a wonderful “way of life”.🌟

📍Eryanping Trail｜Alishan, Chiayi

is famous of its sunrise. Almost every tourist want to know where is the best spot for it🌄 While the locals and photographers prefer in which they can take photos of sea of clouds, setting sun and gallery road.

After proceeding uphill on the trail towards transmit base station from Provincial Highway 18, passing through a tea plantation and crossing a bamboo grove, you may eventually reach a kiosk with observation deck on different altitude🍃 In the right season, you can see female tea-harvesters working among the mist; if you are lucky enough, you will be able to see hill peaks, like islands, floating on sea of clouds☁️☁️☁️

Regardless the length of the trail, your wishes could be fulfilled if coming in a good weather. It is really a secret sightseeing location recommended to visit. As Eryanping sits at and is an hour driving-distances from Alishan National Scenic Area, it is not advised to accommodate in scenic area if sea of clouds and sunset are on your agenda!

📍Mataian Wetland｜East Rift Valley, Hualien

Life comes from living water. Wetland is supplied by Fudeng Stream and a mountain spring nearby🏞️ The 12-hectare wetland is full of various creatures. Walking on the wood trail on the wetland, you can find so many birds, frogs, insects, and water lives here🐦

The name “Mataian” is actually from language: “Vataan”. That means pigeon pea, which grows on trees. That is once the dominant trees spices around here and you can still find them here and have them in your lunch.

Amis uses a special way to catch water life 🛖There is also a classroom here for you to learn more about Amis culture by local lecturers. Other than the beautiful wetland, you can have a wonderful meal here will all kinds of organic meat, fish, and vegetables. With this abundant mount of experiences by seeing, learning, and eating, Mataian Wetland is truly a place for non-touristy travelers!
