Final remarks:
We have a very fruitful harvest in terms of birding & vacationing, and the weather was with us throughout. Taiwan has a lot to offer on top of birds: culture, scenery, cuisine, wildlife, etc. For nature lovers, you’ll be amazed by its beautiful coastline & mountains, the landscape is just breath taking, more so during sunrise & sunset.

Our group tallied 99 species of birds during our 5 1/2 days’ birding; among them, 43 are lifers; there are 30 endemic birds of Taiwan, we met 22 of them! It is a pity that we missed Spoon-billed Sandpiper and Baer’s Pochard during the present trip, but I would put that as a good reason for another visit to Taiwan in the near future.

A big thank you to Patrick, our Taiwan birding guide. His ample knowledge & professional guide, is the crux for the very fruitful birding trip. Patrick knows the birds & he always lead us to the right place, at the right time, to meet our feathered friends in Taiwan!

after google , it introduced the author like this : Lim Kim Chuah is a committee member of the Bird Group of the Nature Society (Singapore) and one of the most experienced birdwatchers in Singapore, with more than 30 years of field observation experience in Singapore and various parts of Asia. He has written many papers and books on the birds of Singapore

He said that the last time he came to Taiwan, he had bad luck

This time it was because he saw his friend came to Taiwan to birding with me in March and almost get all the endemic species , so he think maybe this time birding with me

This time due to he have very top birding experience and some luck with us , it took only three days to help him find all the endemic species that he had not seen last time. and added 25 lifer !

Taiwan birding trip Feb 13 - 18

We saw many endemic birds
Mikado Pheasant, Taiwan Cupwing, Swinhoe's Pheasant, Black-necklaced Scimitar Babbler, Taiwan Rosefinch, Yellow Tit, etc.

and a large number of highlights , rare bird species such as Black-chinned Fruit Dove, Baer's Pochard, Nordmann's Greenshank, Chinese Egret, Isabelline Shrike, etc.

We saw many beautiful birds and enjoyed many delicious foods

Spoon-billed Sandpiper , World wetland Day 2024 , Taiwan

How to find a Spoon-billed Sandpiper (SBS) ? when you use a telescope , and the shorebirds are very small , tiny and difficult to identify ? how to focus the suspect one , even you can't see its billed ?

This is a SBS winter in Taiwan Hsinchu

Look it unique feeding move , it totally different with other shorebirds (with Dunlin)

I hope you can feel its unique foraging behavior through this video, help you find the (SBS) Spoon-billed Sandpiper in the future.

did you remember my last post , how lucky we are , have a Rufous-faced Warbler so friendly and close to us , testing the lens’s shortest focusing distance , let our friends from HK almost can't use lens focus this tiny bird
