When giraffes grow to be about a month old, their mothers leave them in groups called calving pools, where another group of adult giraffes cares for the babies. While they are in calving pools, the mother giraffes can venture further out to find food and water for their babies. Each evening, the mother giraffe returns and retrieves her baby from the calving pool to care for it
