The

Leopards are the most elusive animals of the Big Five in Africa.
They are mostly sitting in trees and often hunt either in the early morning or in the evening. When they have caught their prey, they take it up a tree. Many confuse a leopard with a cheetah, however, a cheetah is smaller and slimmer. Also, a cheetah cannot climb a tree, because they have no claws. You can spot leopards in the same national parks as lions.

What are leopards like in the wild.?

Leopards are elusive creatures, under the cover of night and using the surrounding vegetation for camouflage. They prefer not to waste energy chasing prey for long. Instead, they use their intelligence to slowly and stealthily approach their target and then attack it with a leap relying on their strong legs and claws.

Where to find leopards in ?

Leopards inhabit several national parks in Tanzania, including Lake , , and the Conservation Area, including the crater. In the southern national parks, leopards can be found in like Ruaha and Nyerere national park

AFRICAN SAVANNA ELEPHANT 🐘

When we talk about the Big Five, we specifically refer to the African savannah elephant or African bush elephant, scientifically known as Loxodonta africana. Many people believe that there are only two species of elephants: Asian and African. However, DNA research has shown that there are actually three species, as both African forest elephants and African savanna elephants inhabit Africa.

The Elephant is a member of the Big Five that you can hardly miss in Tanzania. There are a lot of elephants in Tanzania. The best national park to spot the elephant is Tarangire National Park. Here you can sometimes spot over a hundred elephants at once at the Tarangire River. Fortunately, the elephant population has grown in Tanzania over recent years. This is because illegal hunters are currently severely punished.

In Africa, there is a single representative of the bovids which have never managed to domesticate. This explains why the African buffalo is part of the fearsome Big Five

There are six Routes to climbing

These six routes all meet up with a path – the Summit circuit – going around the foot of the Kibo cone. You will go along either the Northern Circuit or the Southern Circuit depending on which side of the mountain you started.

From the circular path around the foot of Kibo there are three routes leading to the summit. Which one you take depends on which of the six routes you took up to the circular path.

The three summit routes are:
Western Breach
Barafu
Kibo Huts route

The Western Breach was closed after rockfalls fatally injured three climbers in 2006, but has since been re-opened. The danger lies in the glaciers above the route: as it melts, rocks are released and rock slides occur.

It is still considered unsafe to use and is the most dangerous route to the summit. There are two trails leading down the mountain.

If you used the Machame, Umbwe, Shira or Lemosho routes, you will descent with the Mweka trail.

If you went up on the Rongai or Marangu route, you will come down on the Marangu route.

Climb Mount Meru in Tanzania - 4 Days

Mt. Meru is located in the heart of Arusha National Park and in the west side of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano reaching 14,980 feet (4,565 meters). This trek serves as an ideal warm-up for Mt. Kilimanjaro due to its altitude acclimatization and hiking distances. This trek is also geared towards hikers that prefer fewer crowds and a challenging ascent. Because Mount Meru is located in Arusha National Park, hikers must climb with an armed ranger due to the wide range of wildlife living on the mountain. The Great Migration:
Every year, around 1.5 million wildebeest; 350,000 Thomson’s gazelle; 200,000 zebra; and thousands of eland and other ungulates (hoofed animals) participate in what has been called ‘the greatest show on Earth’, The Great Wildebeest Migration.

-It is unclear how the wildebeest know which way to go, but it is generally believed that their journey is dictated primarily by their response to the weather; they follow the rains and the growth of new grass. While there is no scientific proof of it, some experts believe that the animals react to lightning and thunderstorms in the distance. It has even been suggested that wildebeest can locate rain more than 50km away.
