Survival in the wild is never easy as all wildlife need food, territory and the strength to fight enemies. Even as the apex carnivore, a lion's hunt is full of danger - their prey does their best to defend themselves! The lion in this picture is blinded in one eye after a nasty encounter with a porcupine in the Ruaha landscape, and has one of its quills still stuck on his cheek.

Normally, big cats prefer ungulates as their prey, but in times of shortage, they may catch and eat a variety of smaller animals, from rodents to reptiles. Lions tend to go after more porcupines during serious droughts and in arid areas where large prey are less abundant. A study found that in places with low levels of rain, for example, porcupines comprise an average of 28 percent of the big cats’ diets, whereas in wetter areas, they typically make up less than four percent.

So, despite wielding the strength to bring down large prey like giraffes and buffaloes, lions can lose in a fight with prickly critters like a porcupine. A badly executed porcupine attack can cause severe injury to the lion, hampering its hunting abilities and therefore risking its life.

Did you know about Sharifa's Grave located in Kaole Ruins - Bagamoyo, Pwani Region (13th Century)?

It is the grave of a famous young girl named Sharifa. The name Sharifa means a girl or a woman who has magical powers born with it (directly from God). This is according to Islamic religion and if it was a man, he would be named Sharif. Sharifa died at the age of 13 while she was still a virgin.

Sharifa was believed by the people due to her ability to heal people who suffered from different diseases by just praying to them and had the ability to translate dreams and predict things that will happen in the future.

She also did a miracle to a well that was found beside the Mosque, the well did not dry until today and the water there does not have any salty taste as before despite the well being near the ocean. The water is believed to cure some diseases and also you can set an intention on the things you want to happen in your life or a problem you want it to go away from your life before you drink then you drink.

After she died (Sharifa), the next day in the morning, three babies died in different houses at the same time sharifa died yesterday and the people believed that they were angels accompanying her and they were buried around the grave of Sharifa.

Until today the people of Bagamoyo and the visitors are going to the grave of Sharifa to pray because they believe sharifa because of the power she had may help them to deliver their prayers to God.
