The savanna elephant, also known as the bush elephant, is larger and more widespread, commonly found in grasslands and savannas. The forest elephant is smaller and lives in the dense forests of Central and West Africa. Both species play crucial roles in their ecosystems, such as maintaining forest and savanna habitats and dispersing seeds.

Their conservation status is vulnerable due to threats from poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict. Efforts to protect them involve anti-poaching initiatives, habitat conservation, and community engagement programs.

Tanzania can be visited anytime throughout the year, depending on what you what to do and see.

June to September: This weather is cool and dry and most days are sunny. Animal-spotting is easy as food is sparse and the animals gather in water sources to drink water. The wildebeest migration in the Serengeti usually takes place in June and July.

October to February: The weather is hot especially December through to February, and there are short rains fall. Wildebeest calving takes place from late January in the southern Serengeti.

March to May: Heavy rains make roads muddy and some areas inaccessible during the raining season. However, the landscapes are lush and green. Bird-watching is at its best at this time of year.

Male ostriches have some unique and fascinating characteristics:Distinctive Appearance: Male ostriches have striking black plumage with white wing tips and tail feathers, which they use in mating displays to attract females. In contrast, females and juveniles have more subdued brownish-gray feathers.Loud Booming Calls: To attract mates and establish territory, male ostriches produce deep, resonant booming sounds. These calls can be heard from quite a distance and are part of their courtship rituals.Speed and Endurance: Male ostriches are incredibly fast runners, capable of reaching speeds up to 45 miles per hour (72 km/h). They use their strong legs not only for speed but also for powerful kicks to defend themselves from predators.Polygamous Breeding: During the breeding season, a dominant male will mate with several females, but usually forms a primary bond with one "major hen." The major hen lays her eggs in a communal nest, which can contain eggs from multiple females.Shared Incubation Duties: Males take an active role in incubating the eggs. Typically, the dominant male and the major hen take turns sitting on the nest, with the male often taking the night shift due to his darker feathers providing better camouflage in the dark.Aggressive Defenders: Male ostriches are known to be very protective of their nests and young. They can become quite aggressive when defending their territory and offspring, using their strong legs and sharp claws as formidable weapons.

A typical giraffe family structure consists of a dominant male, several females, and their offspring. The dominant male plays a protective role, keeping watch over the group and sometimes engaging in necking battles with other males to establish dominance. Female giraffes form strong social bonds and often help each other care for their young. Giraffe calves are born after a gestation period of around 15 months and are usually able to stand and walk within hours of birth.
