Wildebeest Migration Mara River Crossing
NEVER SMILE AT A CROCODILE!
Seriously
Witness Migration and drama daily, from about late June or early July until about late October. Herds, often in thousands, criss - cross the Mara river to reach new pasture. There are many well used crossing points along stretches of the Mara river as it winds its way across the Serengeti plains to lake Victoria. These crossings are perilous in the extreme and only attempted after much nervous inspection. It only takes one or two brave souls to leap into the water to trigger a mad rush into the water. Steep banks become clouded in dust as the animals stampede, often leaping off the river banks and tumbling to the water’s edge. They wade or swim as fast as they can in an attempt to cross the river safely. Casualties are frequent. Often a flotilla of giant crocodiles launch themselves at the line of crossing animals. On this occasion the crocodiles were not to be seen and probably satiated from earlier crossings.
Our North camp is an ideal base to view the crossings. Emmanuel our guide and his guests witnessed four crossings in one day …it does not get better than that!

Greetings from our Semi Resident Elephant Family at Kirurumu Tarangire
The scene is immediately in front of the dining room @ Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge where we sit around the fire at night.
The dining room was surrounded for a while by the family of Elephants, but being marooned for an hour at breakfast by hungry elephants is all part of a safari and there will be fond memories for our lucky guests who had the pleasure of meeting our semi resident family.
Our treasured family trashed all the lovely stand of “Panicum maximum” (A tasty tall green grass) that germinated on the camp fire terrace below the dining room during and after the long rains. It had become a nice feature in front, but we really kept it there for the elephants.

The ladies of Haduma village celebrating the new foundations of the community hospital. For every dollar raised in the community Hoopoe matched it.
Someone's glad it's Friday. I met this talented chap out walking from Kirurumu Manyara along the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
Trekking through the forest on Mt. Meru.
Today, I went trekking through the forest up Mt. Meru in Arusha National Park. We set off from the very lovely and comfortable Itikoni Camp to around 6500ft arriving two hours later at a surprise bush lunch in a sun lit glade in the forest by some waterfalls. A great day that was, that'll be perfect for clients looking to acclimatise before Kilimanjaro or as a first night or two on arrival in Tanzania.
A lovely day at Lake Manyara with Hoopoe Safaris.
Takes your breath away doesn't it.
We loved seeing the elephants helping out in the Kirurumu Under Canvas laundry.
The Migration crossing the Mara River in Serenget National Park.
This week, we are in the scenically and outstandingly beautiful Kogatenge area of Serengeti National Park where our guide Tito spotted the migration crossing the Mara River and took this video for us to share.
