Does a Cheetah eat every day?

A full grown Cheetah will consume between 2.8kgs (6.2pounds) to 4kgs (8.8pounds) of meat. Males tend to eat more than females in any single meal if they manage to catch enough size of a prey animal.

After eating enough, a Cheetah can go for 2 to 5 more days without eating again commonly. A nursing mother Cheetah will have to eat almost every day because of the physiological demands during this time.

Cheetahs prey on smaller to medium size animals and they prey on animals such as Hare, Rabbits, Dik diks, Thomson's Gazelles, Grant's Gazelles, Impalas, baby Zebras and baby Wildebeests, et cetera.

Male Cheetahs have been observed to bring down relatively larger prey animals the size of a two-year old Wildebeest calves or even a full-grown Topi. And this is mainly possible when there are several males concerting their efforts to that.

A mother Cheetah will start teaching her cubs to hunt when the cubs are at the age of six months, and this will continue until the cubs are about 18months, the time they leave their mom and go to fend on their own.

Female Cheetah cubs will leave the mother and go on live solitarily while male cubs will keep their association as brothers, in most cases or form coalition with other males.

Are you a Cheetah lover and wish to experience the life of these beautiful animals in their natural habitats?

Join us on our safaris for incredible insights of not just Cheetahs but also other African animals.

Did you know that today is a World Lion Day?

World Lion Day is a day the world celebrates on the existence of Lions on the planet Earth. This day was established in 2013 by the environmentalists Dereck and Beverly Joubert, founders of the Big Cat Initiative.

The main reason for this special day is to raise awareness on the plight of Lions in the world. Todate, the world has lost almost 90% of the Lion population in the wilderness due to factors such as habitat loss, poaching, et cetera. It is estimated that the Lion population in the wild has dwindled to 23'000.

Lions have been listed VULNERABLE on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List since 1996.

Nearly all wild Lions live in Africa and there is a small population which lives in Gir Forest National Park in Western India.

Tanzania harbors almost half of the remaining wild Lion population in the world.

We should all give a remarkable applause to those who have directly and indirect sacrificed their time, skills, money and any other form of support to the conservation of these magnificent animals in the world. To those who see this as a good cause to support, please don't give up. In today's world, these Lions need more support than ever before.

Let us all join effort to support the conservation of these vulnerable animal species.

Serengeti National Park is part of the Greater Serengeti Ecosystem and lies in the Northern Circuit in Tanzania. Sprawling 14,763sq. kms, Serengeti borders the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the south. The park is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most visited attractions in Tanzania. The vast Serengeti plains are home to diverse wildlife, including predators, herbivores, primates and a variety of bird species. Serengeti also hosts one of the most fascinating wildlife events, The Great Wildebeest Migration, which sees over 1.5 million herbivores (Wildebeests, Zebras and Gazelles) transverse the park as they head to Masai Mara in Kenya and back. The park’s ecosystem is dotted with various landscapes, including plains, rocky outcroppings, riverine forests, acacia woodlands and scenic hills.
Your visit to the Serengeti would surely be one of those never miss opportunities for a lifetime experience.
We can help you plan for the best Serengeti Safari in Tanzania.

Thought of visiting Ngorongoro Crater?

Ngorongoro Crater is one of the top tourist attractions in Tanzania, together with Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro and the beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.

Its formation goes back to between 2.5 - 3million of years ago when the work of volcanism took place in the area and created the current bowl-like geological structure. Technically, this is a caldera as it collapsed after the emission of magma from within.

This is the largest caldera in entire world with walls unbroken and its floor unflooded. It spans an area of about 260sq.kms/100sq.mi, with the depth of its wall standing at 610m/2000ft.

The floor of this famous Ngorongoro Crater is dominated by open-grassland, with three patches of woodlands, two large swamps, a lake and two major streams of water.

Ngorongoro Crater is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa and a home to a population of about 25'000 large animals, mostly hoofed animals.

It boasts about 550species of birds and the highest density of mammalian predators in Africa, including the densest population of Lions.

It is one of the few places in the world with the last remaining populations of the most endangered Black Rhinoceros.

You can sometimes spot all the Big Five Animals of Africa in this Crater on a day - Imagine seeing the African Elephant, Black Rhinoceros, African Cape Buffalo, African Lion and African Leopard, in one day on your African Safari!!!

Some people have given the Ngorongoro Crater the comparison of the biblical "Garden of Eden".

All the above and others make the Ngorongoro Crater one of the best safari destinations in the world and an incredibly amazing place to include in your bucketlist of global-trotting.

You will never regret visiting this world famous Crater and treat yourself with once in a lifetime extraordinary experience.

Why Do male Lions have manes?

The function of manes in Lions has been a topic of scientific interest since the time of Darwin (1871) - and it was suggested that manes provide protection when male Lions engage into fights against other Lions. Further experimental studies on wild Lions connote that Lion manes play roles in mate - selection.

To date, no agreement has been reached on the primary functions of manes in Lions.

Across history, manes of male Lions have carried sense of admiration and fear, when on portraits or physical encounters.

Not all male Lions have manes. Those with manes are either Golden - maned or Dark - maned. Those without manes are termed as Maneless Lions or Scanty - maned Lions.

Many tourists dreaming of African Safaris, are partly aspired by encounters of "Big - dark maned Lions".

Are you one of those dreaming to have encounters of such big - maned Lions on safari in Africa? If YES, drop us a line or two and we will create a program that will provide better chances of encountering these impressive Kings of the beasts!

What makes you wish to see Lion cubs on safari?

✓They cute, adorable, priceless,..
✓You will be so lucky to see them in the wild
✓Its always so exciting to see younger cubs to the very day they are born
✓It's a breathtaking moment on a trip in Africa
✓It's the highlight of many visitors on trips in Africa.

Here are some facts about Lion cubs:
•They are born all year round
•A lioness is pregnant for 3-4months.
•They are born in privacy - sheltered bushed or caves
•They are born blind and will remain like this until the 2nd or 3rd or so week from birth.
•The average litter size is 1-4
•Cubs will generally be introduced to the pride after the sixth week from birth.
•They start eating meat at the age of 2-3months
•Between 6-7months cubs stop nursing.
•They are independent from their mothers at the age of 2years
•Approximately 50% of the cubs survive on the first year and 80% of Lion cubs die before the age of 2years.
•More mortality happens in the dry season when prey animals are in short supply.
•Lion cubs are so playful and this consolidates bonds between cubs themselves and between cubs and other Lions in the pride. Playing also improves their agility and gives them better survival skills.

Are Lion cubs one of your dreams on an African safari? If yes, drop us a message and we can make it happen.

What is World Elephant Day?
This is a day specially dedicated to the celebration of the living elephants in the world-the day aimed to acknowledge the significance of elephants in our ecosystems. August 12 is the day for this big event.
Without the elephants, the world is going to loose majority of it's natural ecosystems. Below are some of the significant roles of elephants:
✓Elephants are engineers of ecosystems and they help to maintain ecosystems and the diversity of species found therein.
✓They are modifiers of ecosystems and their role extends to creating pathways for other animals.
✓Elephants are one of the excellent agents of dispersing seeds around the world.
When we loose elephants, we loose important world ecosystems and this will put us humans in peril.
It is the day that we remind ourselves to support a world that protects elephants, other animals and their habitats.

Happy Elephant Day to All Elephant Lovers around 🌍

06/08/2022

Elephants are sociable animals that live in small groups of related individuals. These groups are called herds and they are mostly led by the oldest female (matriarch)

When such groups grow larger than the carrying capacity, they split to form sub - groups which will still be living close to each other and all follow the matrilineal order. In the wet season groups merge and in the dry season they disband.

Males are known to live solitarily and sometimes unite to form temporary groups of all boys (boys' clubs).

Elephant's intelligence is amazing! Research shows that elephants have incredible memories and they can even remember their friends and enemies in the course of their life!

They morn when they loose other members of the family and remain with the dead for several days. All along, they try to cover the lost member with dirt, branches, leaves, twigs, while occasionally touching it carefully and sensitively.

Elephants are definitely some of the most amazing animals to watch!

Let us know if Elephants are in your bucket-list of travel to Africa and we will ensure that you have the best of it on your itinerary.

Are you standing tall on World Giraffe Day?

Giraffes are peaceful, cloven-hoofed ungulates, and are the tallest and largest ruminant in the world.

The neck of a giraffe is long and consists of seven cervical vertebrae, the same number of neck bones that humans have!

The sheer height and size of the giraffe requires a large heart that's capable of maintaining adequate blood pressure to the brain.

Giraffes are herbivores and leaf-eating mammals. They spend up to 20hours a day feeding.

They can be found in the savannah, open-grasslands, and dense forests, especially in the vicinity of the mimosa trees.

Giraffes are non-territorial, sociable animals, living in a leaderless, disorganized groups, called herds. Membership of the herd is fluid and constantly changes

Usually giraffes sleep and drop babies in standing positions.

The population of giraffes in the world is estimated to be around 117'000, with 68'000 giraffes living in the wild.

The world has lost almost 30% of it's giraffe's population since 1980.

Join us to celebrate this special day of these iconic and amazing animals in the world.

Those interested to see these long-necked friends in their natural environment are welcome to send us inquiries for the best African Safari planning.

Are you dreaming to encounter Cheetahs in their natural environment, on your safari in Africa?

Cheetahs are renowned as the fastest land mammal with an ability to sprint to about 112kms/hr (70miles/hr). Their super-light, flexible, streamlined body with long and thin legs are some of the adaptations they have evolved for such a remarkable speed!

Cheetahs rely on their speeds to bring down a prey, and their prey -sizes range from medium size antelopes eg. a two-year old Wildebeest to small sizes eg. African Cape Hare.

For such exceptionally high speed to happen, Cheetahs prefer an open-grassland plains with less to no other competing predators eg. Lions or Hyeanas.

If Cheetahs fall within your dreams for your vacation to Africa, our company can assist to make this dream a reality. You just need to send us your wishes for us to start customizing your vacation plans.

Our many years of hands -on experience and professionalism guarantee you the best safari experience!
