Additional Costs Explained

The following table covers a few additional costs – some obvious, some less so – that you might need to add into your overall budget.

International Flights

To keep costs down avoid flying during school holidays. Secondly, don't fly direct. Doing so is almost always more expensive than transiting a third country.

Visa Costs

Rules and regulations vary by nationality and destination country, but all East African and many southern African countries charge for visas. Normally this is in the range of US$30 to US$50 per person.

Accommodations

Check your flight schedule. If you arrive in the afternoon your tour may start the next day and so you might need accommodations before the tour starts. The same rule might also apply at the end of your safari if you have an early morning flight.

Vaccinations

Health-wise you will probably need several vaccinations before arrival in most safari destinations. Malaria is widespread and a serious risk – it's recommended to take anti-malarial medication (seek advice from your local doctor).

Tips

Tips for drivers, waiters, room staff and guides can quickly add up. Bring a couple of hundred US dollars in smaller bills to cover tips. To give you a hint: US$15 per person per day.

Travel Insurance

Don't even think about skipping this. A decent policy can cost anything from US$50 to US$175 for two weeks.

The Dar es Salaam Zoo is best known for having many animals endemic to Tanzania, including but not limited to zebras, crocodiles, antelopes, tortoises, gazelles, monkeys, hyenas, lions, leopards, snakes, and several species of birds. There is also a kids' zone with slides, swings and jungle-gyms. The Dar es salaam Zoo also has a swimming pool for children and teenagers under 13. Dar es salaam Zoo gives an opportunity to foreigners and locals to get close to animals and interact with some animals such as monkeys, horses, donkeys and camels, also providing a dream ride for the visitors. Nguva river is also one of the biggest attraction of Dar es salaam Zoo, providing water and cool climate for the natural vegetation attracting different species of colourful and uniquely attractive birds, butterflies and other natures beauty creations. It is one of the largest zoo's in East Africa hence providing its singular taste for both locals and foreigners.

The Caravan Serai, with Swahili-Islamic architecture is one of the place of memory in Bagamoyo historic town linked to the 19th Century ivory and slave trade activities. The two storey building was built in 1860s by Mr. Said Magram Awadh, an Arab trader who had a coconut plantation in Bagamoyo.

Saadani National Park is located in the centre of historic triangle of Bagamoyo, pangani and Zanzibar. The park covers 1100 kilometres. Saadani National Park is also the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania bordering the sea.

Saadani National Park is home to approximately 30 species of large mammals, numerous reptiles and birds. However, there are also species in the ocean nearby, namely; fish, Green turtles, Humpback whales and dolphins.

The park is also a habitat of elephant, lions, buffalos, giraffes, waterbuck, zebras, wildebeest, hippo and warthog.
